The Camaro and Corvette have shared engines for a long time now. I'm glad the practice has continued.

The LS3 -and- the entire LSx series of engines should be put into an engine "Hall of Fame." Too bad one doesn't exist, AFAIK.

The LS3 is a fantastic choice for the V8 Camaro.

I think that must be a misprint, or they are choosing to derate the Camaro by using different RPM ratings. If you calculate the torque needed to generate 422 hp at 5000 rpm (900 less than the vette) it is over 440 ft lbs (at 5000 rpm). My guess is somebody put the wrong number for the hp peak rpm or they just like to keep us guessing. Either way this will be an awesome motor and I think most of us here will never forget the first time we got behind the wheel of an LS1 powered vehicle.

All I'm going to say, GM is always good for HP numbers and we won't know for sure until someone gets it on a dynomometer. I'm guessing it makes peak HP closer to 6000rmp. It's hard to figure out RPM at max HP without knowing what the torque curve is. But a guess it will be making well under peak torque at peak HP, and Peak HP usually comes at a lot higher than 1600rpm below the redline. Lets say since it's similar in design to the vettes ls3 give it max HP at 5900 rpm that requires 375.6 lbft of torque.

I'm gonna go ahead and say it's a misprint of just misinformation too. SAE certified means that an independent company has tested the engine and certifies that it makes the claimed horsepower.

Everyone claims the vette must be underrated, but conditions have a lot to do with dyno testing. There's an average number for doing the math on driveline losses but that doesn't mean it's always right. This has been gone over a lot in other threads. If it makes 400 at the wheels it doesn't mean the engine makes 500hp. It could just mean the car was tested in great conditions and had very little driveline loss. The Zeta platform seems to suck a lot of hp according to results seen on the g8 boards. Let's hope the camaro is different.

They are one in the same. The Grand Sport is the only difference as far as LS3 and it had dry sump oiling. Those engines are hand assembled too.
