well...I know what 429 is saying...I know from gun barrells that I've read the stainless barrells aren't as strong as a 4130 barrell.

Try and sharpen a carbon blade and then try a stainless blade. The stainless is WAY harder then carbon (mild) steel. Compare drilling, cutting, sharpening, and bending stainless to mild steel..... each is more difficult with stainless, so how can it be "softer"?
