That is not my deal though. I buy cars to drive them not join clubs and stuff like that. My trophy husbands of america club takes up too much of my time as it is.

Corvettes at Carlyle was just this past weekend.

The Corvette Corral at the ALMS races is jammed pack full of Corvette's during the entire weekend of racing.

The Corvette Bash at the plant in Bowling Green ....nothing needs to be said there.

I could go on and on with the regional stuff, but to say the Corvette faithful is a very big and active family would be a complete understatement.

I love my Camaro's , but the family of Corvette owners goes way beyond anything the Camaro family has.

Google these events and look at the picture threads.
Nuff said.

I have an 08 Z06 and at least half of the 8K miles are track miles....car was made for it.....runs better when you beat on it!

But to the OP....on ZL1 vs 427 vert? The two are totally different cars....like my kids say (I have a 2SS as well) one is a scary race car and the other one is a cruiser.........but a vert is a cruiser too....so it just depends if you want to go fast or really fast.
But you start a thread on the Vette forum on 9-1-12, saying you are worried about the valves breaking and killing your 15k motor......................... Didnt see anything about being worried about oil starvation.....

So did your Z06 actually drop a valve?

Or are you saying that you were too worried about it and couldn't enjoy it? Sounds like a lot of people on the Z06 forums...

A small minority, IMHO, but a very vocal group of owners none the less.

How bad is the "Corvette Tax"? Something to take into account if you're planning on modding your car.

My car only had 4k miles on it,it was modded.Had a big cam, which makes the problem even worse. After seeing all the threads about broken valves, and guide wear,It got to where I was just scared to drive the car.I have to say now,I wish I had stayed off the forums, and kept my Z06.

For the record, the blown LS3s issue has to do with oil starvation in long left hand turns, which was also an issue for LS7 engines as well prior to 2009. The dry sump tank capacity is increased to 10.5 quarts starting by 2009 model year cars, which greatly mitigates this issue. An LS3 with dry-sump (2010+ GS manual coupe models) is actually the most reliable option in current Corvette line-up for track duty.

How do you figure.. the ZL1 would dominate the vette.. the only corvette that would kill the ZL1 is the ZR1....

The base Vette is a high 11, low 12 second car....

The ZL1 is too. (except that most people are running high 12s/low 13s, lol)

an extra 1000 lbs will do that to ya. It's a driver's race.

Go look at the fastest drag strip times on a stock Z06. 10.98 @ 129 Haven't even seen many stock ZL1's in the 11's

Add curves and it would get worse for the ZL1.

According to reality videos, they missed. By a lot. Everything seems to point to the performance goal being to meet or exceed the 2012 GT500....which they hit pretty square.

A base Vette? Sure, at a road course. A GS? Hmmm...much closer. A Z06? Forget it - track, strip, or street.

If money were no object (and it always is with me), I wouldn't even think twice - 427 Vette. However, the difference in price IS significant, IMHO.
