The TSB is for the V8 models with the Brembos, however clearly the smaller brakes for the LS/LT have the same issue. And if I remember correctly, its only for the front pads.
I had my local dealer perform this on my car, and it corrected it for a bit. Might be worth a shot.

But as a previous poster said, replacing the brake pads with a higher quality brand may be the only real fix. Good luck.

The pads are "Brembo" brand, like the calipers. I don't think it's a quality issue. I switched to Hawk cermamic (street) for about 4000 miles. No brake dust, but the squeaking eventually showed up on those too, and the stopping power seemed to lack initial bite. So I switched back.

I was about to put in an order for a set of Hawk cermamic (street) then I read your post about the squeaking coming back.

The squeaking is driving me nuts. I hate that sound.

There has to be a solution!!!!!!

Where are you brake specialist? Please Help

I love how performance brakes sound pretty much just like the ones on the ford Minivan my parents used to have.

Picked this up laymen explanation off the web. It must be true

http://www.trustmymechanic.com/htmlmessage9.html

Brake squeal is caused by vibration between the brake pads, rotors, and calipers. Having the brake rotors refinished or trued (machining a small layer of the metal away from the brake rotor to make it smooth and "true" again) and a thin layer of a silicone compound placed on the back of the brake pads are a great way to reduce the squeal if the semi-metallic pads are the culprit of the noise and not due to a worn out brake pad.

Why does this squeal happen anyway?
The brake rotor is the round metal object that the brake pads squeeze together like the white part of an Oreo cookie. The rotor is metal and has a smooth slick finish, and the brake pads are made of metal shavings and also have a smooth somewhat slick finish. The more metallic material found in the pad the greater the chance for noise, and vise-versa.

The other type of brake pad is called organic. There is no metallic material used in this kind of brake pad. Organic style brake pads can only be used on vehicles that are specifically designed to use them. Improper use of organic pads on a vehicle designed to use semi-metallic can severely reduce stopping ability. Organic pads are softer than semi metallic and usually do not have a squeal problem. Unfortunately due to shorter life expectancy, inability to stop larger vehicles, and the addition of substances like asbestos in their construction, they are not very widely used.

When are squeals signaling a problem?
Sometimes brake squeals are an indication that maintenance is required. Some common conditions that cause brake noise are:
  • Heat cracked or worn "un-true" rotors
  • Rough finish on resurfaced rotors
  • Loose fitting brake pads in the caliper
  • Lack of silicone compound on back of brake pad
  • Missing springs or anti-rattle clips that should be on the caliper or pad
  • Improper tightening sequence of lug nuts or caliper hardware

The squeaking goes away for me too after a bit, but the main thing is I don't want the squeaking to be there at all! It just started after 9 months pf me having it and after 2 years of the car being on the road. So maybe something needs to be replaced now??

The Brembos squeal like a little girl at a pony show.

This ^^^

If you do 3 or 4 firm stops from ~45 MPH, this should stop the average brake squeal. My old 4th gen Z owner's manual said to do this about every 1000 miles.

My only question to the hard stop solution to fix the brakes is, will frequent hard stops reduce the life expectancy of the break pads? The more pressure applied to the pads means the more surface area wearing off of the plates. Just curious.

My car squeaks too.. only the front brakes. Bad ass car, annoying little squeaks like a grandma's car.

Yes, but you will not have squeaky brakes.

Honestly we sell the Hawk Performance Ceramics for Corvette's all day long and we don't have any complaints about squeaky brakes. If you do not resurface the rotors or at least scuff them up pretty good prior to replacing the pads, they will squeak. If you resurface the rotors and/or scuff them up and then you bed them in properly, there are no squeaks.

I had the same problem. 9 months of work and they finally admitted that it was a problem. As I am meticulous with my car (past camaro and current) I can attach all of the documents I found on squealing brakes. At least a few TSBs, newspaper articles about other car companys filing lemon law under squeal brakes, etc, etc. Here are links to two threads I started when I was having issues.

Just let me know if you want those documents. I have pdf and hard copies of everything so wouldn't be a problem to upload them.

EDIT: after reading all of the posts I figured I would post a thread about it. "Everything You Ever Needed to Know about Your Squealing Brakes"
