I don't believe that FEMA gets involved unless it has been declared a state of emergency, which it wasn't. The area is also not in a "flood zone".

The car will be covered by SF. They paid my claim in 05 for Katrina. The house was covered by my Federal Flood Insurance policy.

I was able to buy my car back because a friend wanted to rebuild it. It is still on the road today last I heard.

Have they given you a total on how much you are colecting yet? I cant believe the car is already listed to sell and the case isnt even closed and you havent gotten paid yet. are you going for a ss this time around?

Expecting an insurance call Monday... I made sure they declared it totalled before they took it, but no payment yet. I'm still considering an SS, but need to know that dollar amount first, and with gas prices approaching 4.00/gallon... not sure.

Wow, thats crazy.

I hope who ever buys it, makes a race car out of it. The car still has many good parts and I bet that with a good wash a lot of the parts would be worth money.

Would you consider buying it back and rebuilding it?

I know it sucks, but in a way its kinda ... cool? To me that would be a really fun restoration project. If your car is considered a write-off by your insurance company, will they let you keep it anyway?

The insurance company will let you buy them back sometimes. I doubt they will on this one since it's a mold case and they could be sued again. I'm sure there will be disclosures and disclaimers when this one sells.

I think that car could easily fetch 10k. The engine is probably worth close to that, the tires, wheels, glass and all body panels should be fine for resale. This one will be parted out.

State Farm typicaly uses NADA for values to determine total losses and payment values. Check out the value here http://www.nadaguides.com/Cars/Research-Center and see how close it is to the offer you recieve. It may change little if they are reimbursing you for the aftermarket parts as well, but I bet it is real close.

Some other insurance companies use a company called CCC valuescope to determine the value (Geico, USAA, Natonwide are a few examples). If you google "auto insurance ccc valuscope" you will see the massive complaints that auto owners have with their determined values.

Bottom line no matter what insurance company, DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH!!! If the numbers see off, find out how they determine the value, who they use to do so, and ask for a report that shows the comps. (comparable vehicles) they used and where how they determind the value of those cars not to mention where they were. All the vehicles used to value your car should be in your local market, not 200 miles away. A little different if you are driving a Lamborghini of a Ferrari that you have to look hundreds of miles to find a few cars to compare it to, not your Camaro.

My wife lost her 5 month old Monte Carlo Supercharged SS in Katrina (under 5 feet of water). Look pretty much like your Camaro. We know how you feel! Sorry. State Farm came through for her, it was financed and when it was all said and done she cleared $35. Good Luck!

I agree. The engine, tranny, and rear will be ok. Even some body panels. He can buy it back if he wants. They will try to discourage it for all the reasons you mentioned, but it is possible.

My car was under water for weeks, and all they did to get it started was pull the plugs, change the oil, and put a starter and ECU on it.

If the OP has the time and skill to part it out I would say do it.

Good luck with what ever you decide to do, cause I definitely feel your pain.
