Metal on Metal noise

Hey all,

I have a 2013 ZL1 with approx 6700 miles on it, manual transmission. I was pulling into my drive way today and all of a sudden high pitch metal on metal sound started. It happens while rolling in neutral and the clutch out, as well as while accelerating, and moving. At first it wasn't happening at all in reverse, but I kept testing it back and forth and eventually it began in reverse as well. When the brakes are applied it doesn't stop, until the vehicle stops.

Any suggestions?

Ya, go to the dealer and have them look at it!

Wheel hub bearing?

That's the plan! No Memorial Day driving for me this weekend!

Pretty sure it's something in the left front wheel - brake, bearing, something.

Check for rock stuck between disk and caliper. With car off on flat ground have someone roll the car slowly and put your head near the wheels. If it's the front left, jack up that corner and roll the wheel listening. See if its just something stuck there.

Great idea. I know those brake dust shields can bend easily.

This rattle is probably coming from the garage door mecanism. had a similar problem with mine. Finally discovered that parts of my car lift was vibrating due to the exhaust rumble.
are we talking about a metal on metal rattle or a squeal (rubbing) ??

Squeal rubbing not a rattle. Happens on roads not only in the garage.

mbd314,

My apologies regarding your audible metal noise. Although I understand how displeasing this would be, it's great to hear that you'll be proactively reaching out to your dealer for an official diagnosis. Please keep us updated on what happens! If necessary, I can contact the dealer's Customer Experience Managers if additional assistance is needed. We'll look forward to your updates.

Maybe its the same problem like mine. I newer find some solution and never find what it is. Mine squeals just when its warm weather and i drive not faster then 30 mph. More slowly driving more loud it is

keep us posted on this mystery. my new replacement supercharger has a waxing and waning squeal at cold start. sounds like a food plates rubbing against each other.

It ended up being a rock stuck in the backing plate. All good now! Thanks for the responses everyone!
