Cobalt SS/SC vs 2010 Camaro SS/RS
Ok, so it's been a fairly heated discussion over at my local Cobalt Forum. Some say he will take me, other's don't. I'm on the wall about it. I personaly thing it will come down to a Driver MOD.
Before I get into it... I just want to say I LOVE the new Camaro, and I will upgrade one day. OK... so that being said, I was at a local "tuner" gathering about 2 weeks ago with my car club. A guy drove up in a CGM 2010 Camaro SS/RS, as he was passing by I give him the thumbs up... Cuz I'm seriously in LOVE with his car! Well he stops and rolls down his window, so I walk over to just talk cars with him... when he looks at my Cobalt and says its ugly & slow and he'd walk me any day of the week... ?!@$%*! (he caught me off guard for sure) I couldn't help it... I just started laughing... Well me being one of the Presidents of my Cobalt club & I DON'T street race... BUT, I DO hit up the weekly Test and Tune at our local drag stip, Bandimere speedway here was my best run 60'=2.217 1/8=8.974 82.68mph 1/4=13.684 104.77mph this was on an incomplete tune, major exhaust leak, Bad IC Pump, and at the time I was running our local 91 octane. (just installed my METH kit on Monday) Also got a new Cat back, and data logged and fixed my tune. Ohh and we're in Colorado, so I'd be about a second faster at sea-level. Any who, as I'm not an official expert on the Camaro's, I wanna know how you all think we would stack up? I want to challenge him at the next Tuner gathering this weekend.. and if you're all up to it, I might be able to get some video. Ohh and here is my current MOD list: 06 Cobalt SS/SC Front and Rear rotated Trans mount 1.5 Drop ZZP 2.9 Pulley 60# Injectors HUGE Heat Extractor ZZP CAI Hahn Cat back Exhaust Methanol Kit Trifecta Tuned I'm unsure what if any MOD's the Camaro has. Please discuss and let me know what you all thing the outcome will be. |

Before the camaro owned a modified saturn ion red line. I say try it. Even if he has modded the camaro in a race alot of the time the race comes down to the driver not the car.

A friend of mine ran mid to low 12's in his Cobalt SS turbo. He upgraded to mods similar to yours. You should beat him, if he is stock. If he has a CAI, Longtubes and tune, then it will be close.

I was at our local track this past Wednesday night for test n tune.
My ss is stock and the last time I drove a car down a dragstrip was 35 years ago. Here's my best run of the night. I didn't have the rpm up at the start, almost stalled it and hit the rev limiter in 2nd gear. aka, I can't drive for crap and need some serious improvement. 60' - 2.359 330 - 6.100 1/8 - 9.079 @ 81.53 1000' - 11.603 1/4 - 13.672 @ 109.47 I understand that I'm at sea level and that helps. On the other hand it was 91F and quite muggy. Not sure which is really worse, thin air or hot/wet air. I have no doubt though that a better driver would have had much better numbers.

what's up dcarlos ,
Let me first say don't think all camaro owners are douchebags just because you ran into this prick bastard. I wanted a Cobalt SS/SC VERY BADLY but at the time couldn't grab one ... They are beasts and i'm sure with the mods you listed you will beat him by a nice distance. What an idiot to talk smack about a modded Cobalt , hand his ass to him and show him his stupid SS isn't as fast as the Cobalt he was talkin smack about. |

haha anywho, I'm not sure if he knew I had anything done to it... well other then my GIANT front mount... we really didn't get to talking too much . Sad thing is... I'm only Supercharged and not even the fastest Cobalt in my club... I still need headers and a 1.3 liter TVS all poted and polished, Cams, and some other cooling mods. But that cost money... and I'm currently saving up for a nice down payment on my own Camaro. Ohh btw, I don't think all Camaro drivers are d-bags... as a matter of a fact, most of them I talk to are really friendly... but there's a bad egg in every bunch. Even If I don't get to race this guy (don't know if he's gonna be at the tuner meet), I'm gonna keep an eye out at the track for some Camaro's... and if any of you see me or some of my club members at the track say HI, Clubs name is 5280 Cobalts... cant miss us... usualy we come with a pretty big turn out to the track. BTW, pretty sure I'd give him a pretty good run for his money. |

If it's the 1/4 mile... drag race. If it's a Mexican race, he probably has you top end.

Based on your 1/4 mile time, you should have the advantage. 13.6 @ 104 mph at your altitude would be well down in the 12s at a low elevation track.
A lot of guys in here don't understand how high altitude affects performance. We have plenty of guys that have run high 12s (stock), but low 13s in more common. But at your altitude, those times would be closer to high 13s if I had to guess. |

before getting my Camaro, I came from a modded 06 cobalt SS/SC. At least with the mods I had in the cobalt, my Camaro would win everytime given the same driver.... Your cobalt has a bit more mods but its still FWD...
When I had my Cobalt I had: GMPP Stage 2 w/ 2.9'' pulley Cold Air Vibrant Headers with High Flow Cat Ingalls Stiffy Torque Damper My best run in my STOCK camaro was 13.4 @ 109mph. This was an insanely hot and humid day.
