Installing a Power Switch - Technostalgia Lights

Hello all!

Thanks for looking and helping in advance!

i do have some mechanical experience as well as elecrictal but unsure how to set up a switch to turn off/on power to these tail lights.

I imagine hooking them up should be easy enough but i was hoping to add a switch inside the car to give them power when i take her out for the weekends and toss it when i park here for the work week.

Not sure exactly how to do this.

There was someone who sold a set of Technostalgia and had installed a off/on switch due to their tendency to drain the batteries.

thanks again and i hope i was able to explain my hopes.

It's pretty simple. The taillights require a direct connection to the battery via the pink wire in the kit. It's this connection to the battery that causes the drain. The easiest way to address this is to hook that pink wire into a switched source in the fuse box, so that way they only receive power when the key is on. It also doesn't allow you to forget to turn it on and not have taillights or brake lights.

The easiest switched source is power outlets in the center console. The fuses for them are located in the drivers side fuse panel in the dash. I would use an add-a-circuit to tap into the fuse and run the wire under the door sill, through the plastic panels in the back seat and into the trunk. Some people have found switched fuses in the trunk panel, but all of them are constant 12v in my ZL1. Here is a pic of the fuses to tap (the neon yellow 20 amp fuses with the green wire are for the center console outlets)

If you plan on using "Show Mode" you'll need an extra step. Let me know if you have questions.

Just attach the pink power wire to the radio fuse in the rear fuse box using an add-a-tap. This way you only provide power to the lights when the car is started or in ACC .

ahh thanks for the help guys! i have my radar hardwired in using the same method. was going to run a wire all the way from the back to the driver area and use a toggle switch or the switch that you have to flip the cover up to turn on and flip it so not to accidently turn it off.. i like your ideas better.. its always that battery drain that i didnt want to mess with!!

not planning on using show mode. i can just tap the hell out of the brakes.. lol!

thanks and /bow for the help!

Be sure to check amperage with a voltmeter first. As I mentioned above, in my car this fuse is hot all the time, it obviously isn't in camguynj's car.

That's a nice spot for that. The green wire in my pic above is for my Escort radar detector!
