I used 6th gear in my 4th gen when it had 3.42's as low as 45mph as long as I was just cruising. Last edited by JJ#48Racing; 03-29-2009 at 12:08 AM. |

You will now be referred to as "bog boy". Seriously though, your 4th gen didn't have a .57 6th gear!

D'oh!!!
I meant to type 3.70, but after thinking about 3.90s, that's what I typed instead.

As for my choice, I would go with a 3.90 in a heartbeat if they become available. With that 28.68" tall tire, and the 5th & 6th gear, It will still cruise nicely at 80mph and I plan on FI. If I were staying NA, I wouldnt hesitate to go with 4.10s or 4.30s though. But in the end, if all we have available is 3.70, I'll still do it |

Some food for thought for those of you who have not done a gear change before. I did 4.10's on my '99 SS M6. The performance improvement was noticable and fun. However, after living with it for awhile, I am not sure I will do it again. First, I was lucky and never had gear whine from my car, but at LEAST half the people I knew at the time who changed gears did. Second, I just got sick of shifting it so much! The change in rear end gearing causes you to move through each gear faster, and during normal driving, means that you have to shift more often. Don't get me wrong, I love rowing my own gears (all of my Camaros have had manual transmissions) but it was kind of irritating.
I will drive the car for awhile before making any changes, but if I do change them, I won't go for the more extreme gear ratios...maybe 3.73 or 3.90.

This is the same (essentially) chassis. Just don't be surprised if there is a biiiiggggg lag in aftermarket support for certain items.

Pedders is working with GM Racing on their Camaro. I would love some aftermarket gear choices.

You are correct in saying the G8's have been around since 06, but they dont have the following that the Camaro does. With the return of the Camaro the aftermarket is already blowing up for the car and its not event released to public yet. I think the G8 crowd is about to recieve alot of upgrades due to the Camaro.
