Doesn't apply to Unreal, but shows the airflow on the ZL1.
Clean air (Yellow Line) is measured by the MAF
Goes thru the small stock filter can and thru the lines and down into the valve covers and into the crankcase.
Circulates in the crankcase and picks ups blow by gases and moisture.
Then dirty air is sucked out of the crankcase at the PCV hose (Red Line) goes in the snout and is burned in the engine.
The red line is the small loop hose(PCV hose) that is routed to a catch can if you have one. Can't see it in the picture but I just drew in where it is.
See that the air coming out of the crankcase(RED) was measured by the MAF before it went in the valve covers(YELLOW).

Would putting an oil cap breather on be all I would want to do to help vent or is there anything additional I would want to do to ensure it is properly vented?

I have the Mighty Mouse catch can for boost. It has the vented valve built in. Catches oil and no pressure build up and no oil outside. Best I have found.

For a ZL1 not wanting to redo a ton or go super high HP, the PCV can would work best.

Also agreed, best can made.

Thank you Bryan! That is an outstanding illustration of the air flow. Simple and to the point. I was wondering how the MAF would now how much air was running through the PVC system. To be honest I never gave a thought to exactly where the PVC system air was coming from. Thanks again for my "learn something new everyday" moment.

just make sure it is there when the ECM is calibrated or alert the remote tuner of its presence

It will be there when I get tuned, but I just wanted to make sure this is the only thing I'd really need to do to help prevent any rear seal damage... Would that be safe to assume?

Up to a certain power point, yes. Sooner or later if you get into big power >1000 you may need more.

So how many on here venting. Lol
I know there is no guarantee, but is there a rule of thumb or a point were venting the valve covers is nessasary.
Say is someone with 600 or so RWHP in need of it or is the factory pvc system and catch can sufficient?

My car has been driven hard with many laps at VIR and many passes at the dragstrip. It has no leaks at all from the rear main and it has had a vented valve cover the entire time. Yes, it may spatter a little oil (very little) but this is a minor tradeoff. A vented catch can system like the one Mighty Mouse systems sells is a very good unit and addresses all of these concerns.

You will need a retune for it?
