Next Mustang to come in GT500, GT350, Mach 1 performance models
Looks like Ford has plans to have models to compete directly with both the ZL1 and the Z28. Their models will be called GT500 (or equivalent) and the GT350. A Mach 1 revival is also coming.

Lets hope GM responds pretty early on in the 6th gen Camaro. Should be interesting to see how these cars develop over the next few years.

I think the whole point of a V6 is because you can't afford the V8, so why not just make it an Eco 4 to begin with? The V6 is the redundant one in this lineup.

Well, looking at that we can't really call the Mach 1 a Z/28 competitor. Just like you can't say the Z/28 is a Boss 302LS competitor. The LS was gone before the Z/28 and by the time the Mach1 comes out the 5th Gens will be getting replaced. There saying possibly 2017 for it, I would expect the next gen Camaros to be rolling out befor then.

Nope. CAFE standards apply to the entire lineup, not just one model line. Furthermore the Ecoboost 4 would be that fuel efficient alternative, thereby affirming that the V6 is redundant.

I'm guessing the 350 will be the standard GT, and the Mach 1 will be the new Boss 302.

Hmmm, it will be interesting to see if they can make a modern Mach 1 look as good as the ones I remember (early 70's).

High fives and chest bumps for everyone!!!! Love them or hate them but anytime ford drops some badazz rides Chevy has to respond (although their late but atleast they do so) let's hope it's holds true for this next round...

Fords current CobraJet racer is more on the lines with the Z/28 or COPO. The CobraJet will be around through 2014. The GT500 name will stay at least through 2015 as per Ford and Shelby America. There is an agreement to carry on that name brand. The GT350 is strictly a Shelby American car, sold through Shelby America in Las Vegas....home of the Super Snake as well. There are no talks to increase production or build the GT350 in-house through Ford like the GT500. Ford is concentrating on the GT, GT/CS, GT500 and base car right now. They will stick with the Coyote 5.0, Trinity 5.8 ( Ford is testing a twin turbo of this motor) and base 6 cylinder. The ecoboost (365 hp) will make it into a mustang most likely as a 2015 model, possible the base car. Ford ( GM too) must pump out more fuel efficient econoboxes to meet the ever increasing CAFE standards in the future. The more small fuel efficient engines offered in model year cars, keeps us happy with the kind of cars we prefer.... big engines and high horsepower. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD |
