my V6 vs a V8

hello everyone, i thought i would share my first 1/4 mile experience with you all. here in calgary (calgary alberta canada. i think it is 3438 ft above sea level. it was a cool night, 13 degrees celcius, track was unpreped) on friday nights we have a secret street event at the local race track and anyone can come race their street cars. so i fidured i would take my 2lt RS in stock showroom form (spare tire and all) to the track to see what it can really do. got there early and shortly after i got in line, a red 2010 SS arrives. we didnt talk much until the races were begining. he was beside me in the line up so we start talking. he has full length headers, exhaust, a tune, some cosmetic mods, but he asked if i want to race along side him. of course i reply OK but i know you will probably embaras me. we ended up racing 3 time that night, 1st time he ran a 14.5 and i ran a 16.5 (i have never raced before and i could not get an traction at all), second time i warmed up the tires a little just to clean them off, i got a 15.3 and he got a 16.5, WHAT, I WON, he couldnt get any traction that time. was kind of nice crossing the line first against a modified V8, sure it was due to driver error but a win is a win in my book, the 3rd time i got a 15.3 and he got a 14.1.

this was a great experience, i didnt expect much being at my elevation but i sure did have some fun. no i need to order some long tubes and exhaust so i can go back to see if there are any improvements.

just thought i would share my experience with you guys since i enjoy reading all of yours.

BTW, i converted my time useing a website that scrming posted earlier in another thread and it worked out to a 14.6 in the 1/4. not to bad for a stock V6.
here the V8 is 10,000 dollars more, not really worth the 1.3 second difference. cant wait till STS come out with their kit.

Got the slips to scan? I'd love to see them.

Sounds like the SS had a critical failure of the driver mod.

well congrats on the drag.

in some ways i will agree a car that is 10,000 more for a few seconds in a 0-60 1/4 mile would not be worth it cause you can mod your lower priced smaller motor with that 10g's and beat it. but in this picture i will spend the extra 10g's just cause i see the camaro as a muscle car and it belongs with a v8. they originally came with a v8, until there was the whole saving gas thing and company's started to make there cars economical so people will still buy.
i say screw that. lol so yeah thats my 2 cents.

Sure...with a nice elevation/weather combination it will, but at his location, you will see slower times for these cars.

On a stock V6???...the magazines are testing anywhere from 14.2 to 14.6

Fastest modified (non-FI) V-6 car we've seen was member 67GTO's...who ran a high 13.9 something.

I was low 13 on first pass ever at a strip-100% stock. That dude does not know how to drive. I thought I was a drag strip newbie. And he had mods? What elevation are you at?

xtreme industries....you really should edit your first post to list the altitude and weather conditions (which is probably a reason for the higher 1/4 mile times)...else all your going to hear is "wow...driver mod needed" lol

i listed my city, calgary alberta canada. i think it is 3438 ft above sea level. it was a cool night, 13 degrees celcius, track was unpreped. i dont have the time slips due to printer failure, they were hand writing all the times for everyone. next time i go and i get some slips, i will scan and post. our track is on its last legs, they only got a 2 year renewal on their lease, they were not even supposed to open this year but they convinced the city to let them stay for now. they are supposed to be repaving the track this year.
i would love to have bought a V8 in the first place but thought a V6 would have been adequate when i bought. now i cant afford to take a loss and also pay the extra for the V8. so now i will have to see what the V6 can do.

The conditions had better be terrible to justify those SS times.
