So it sounds like everyone is reporting ~15-17 city (ish) and 20-25 highway (ish) without any of the newer AFM.

According to Chevy, the displacement on demand system should net ~20% better mileage so we might estimate the 5th Gen would average 17-19 city (less of a benefit in the city with all the start/stop) and 24-30 highway... which isn't bad at all!

when you hit mid to high 20's and even some 30 talk with that kind of power, its freakin awesome. MPG will be a huge deal for the average guy that isn't a major enthusiast but likes the styling and affordablilty. GM needs this to make sure they snag those extra customers!!

Cheers!!

and don't forget Direct Fuel injection, and VVT, also a little better gearing. All of which boost fuel economy considerably...

Also- GM stated themselves on one of their engine spec sheets (so it's not just me saying this) that AFM advantages really kick in when your doing exensive highway cruising...different than EPA "highway". Think about it - it makes sense...driving practically a 4-cyllinder at 55-70 (I'm a good boy ), Your talkin' 34- (maybe - wishful thinking) 40 mpg....IN A CAMARO!!!

my dad has a new impala ss which if you dont know has a 5.3 liter V-8 which can switch to four cylinders. we just got done with a road trip and we averaged 28 mpg. But while we were on the highway the instant mpg said 32. In the city the ss gets 22 now, the engine i guess is breaking in and improving.
So if i had to guess what the camaro would do it would be 19-21 city and 26-29 highway

I like to see those mid to high 20's on the highway. My second gen firebird 6.6l would get 17mpg no matter how you drove it.

You will with out a doubt. 2002 Z06 vette at 75 mph in 6th gear would get between 26-28 mpgs on the hyw. If the Camaro has active fuel mgmt, notwithstanding a .3 or.5 liter larger displacement, you may even see 30mpg.

On my last tank, I got 17.90 city MPG

On the HWY, I get 23.92 HWY. That's with a somewhat heavy foot passing cars on occasion.

The Camaro should be lighter than the Impala, though...with higher overdrive gearing, too. So I would expect 3 mpg more than you originally guessed.
