BTW, make sure and continuously read the forums. They'll often clue you in on not only new things happening with the Camaro but "problem" areas as well.

Case and point: I purchased my new 'vert and knew from other forum members contributions that a set of bolts which the tonneau cover for the top is attached to, do not come pre-installed from the factory. These must be installed by the dealer. My sales consultant didn't know this. The tonneau, if improperly attached, could've blown off on the freeway, as has happened to several owners, not only damaging / destroying the tonneau cover, but also damaging my car, as well. I decided not to use the tonneau cover until the bolts could be installed by my dealer's service dept. All's well, that ends well.

Sometimes the devil is in the details and the details are where it's at.

Instead, use the "Dealer Price" or "Dealer Invoice Price" and negotiate UP from those prices, rather than the customary "DOWN" from MSRP (the way I've understood the process). I don't believe a dealer will come right out and sell a car at the price he paid for it (Dealer Price) but that's a good starting point for anyone to begin their in-person, face-to-face purchase negotiation(s).

There are many, many other folks here who understand this process much better than I could ever hope to, who may shed more clarity / transparency on the process.

In the old days, a dealer MIGHT have showed you their invoice if you pulled a gun on him and IF he felt like it that day.
Dealer invoice is not what the dealer ends up paying for the car. There are kickbacks in the thousands when the car is sold so paying invoice for a car is not screwing the dealer over at all. There's a small town chrysler dealer near me that will sell their cars for invoice without you even asking for it.

Thanks for adding this. I forgot to mention the dealer "hold backs" / kickbacks. I, like many other car buyers, wish there were greater "transparency" to the whole car buying process.

I got a quote from Becky too. It is very competitive but the Costco deal was a bit better after you factored in the cost of shipping from MI. I'm sure the Costco deal is variable through dealer to dealer but mine was below invoice. Plus you fill out a survey post purchase is you have an executive membership and you get $50 towards service or parts/accessories through your dealer.

Without a job, you will need your parents to co-sign the loan for you. Are they willing to do that?

I'd try to bring that price down if I were you.. 29750 is high for a 1lt rs. When I had a 2lt rs auto I payed 30 for it. I can't think of any reason a 1lt rs would be that close in price to a 2lt.

It was the dealership's quote. I really doubted that, which is why I'm here. Can't trust them. When I'm near buying it, I'll contact Becky first. If it turns out to be more expensive, I'll go to Costco.

When ready to buy (or order in my case), What I did was go online and check out the sites of every dealer within my area. If you plan on ordering a car and waiting for it, shoot out messages via the dealer's site seeing if the dealer will order what you want at dealer invoice or if they have the exact car already on their lot and will sell at dealer invoice. I got three dealers that responded that they would do an invoice order. I sent messages back saying I got invoice price offers from other dealers and inquired what'd they'd do to beat out the others. I ended up going with a dealer that took off 250 from invoice. I suppose you can start off lower or more vague on price, but I felt below dealer invoice was a fair enough deal and a good enough price...and I wanted to order my car already =P

Costco is a good program too and some credit unions also have similar auto buying programs. My brother used costco a few years back and got a good deal (especially back then when the economy wasn't so rough - imo now consumers are in a stronger position to get a better deal).

As for insurance, you parents can contact their insurance and get a quote on keeping you on their plan with the car you plan to buy.

Thank you. That was so hopefully.

I want to thank all of you for being so kind to me. I never expected a community this helpful! I'll soon be riding with you if all works as planned! Stay safe and take care!

I recently was looking to get my first camaro which I wanted for a while. I was going to purchase the 1st gen (67-69), but decided to go with the newer ones. Really I like to invest money but purchasing new cars is the opposite of investing so I figured I go for a used one. I had fun looking around for the best car. I actually spoke to 27 different dealerships before I settled on the car. Most of the SS sticker price were going for 32K plus TT/L equalling about 34,500. I got mine out of the parking lot for 28K. Then bought additional bumper to bumber for 1K more after I talked him down.

I'd at least try a used SS before jumping into a new LT.
