ZL1 Fog Lamps

I have searched and there is a lot out there about regular Camaro fog lamp mods but nothing about ZL1 fog lamps. Mine barely light up themselves much less anything on the road in a real fog situation. Are my fogs faulty? If not are there bolt on fog lamp replacements that actually shine some decent light down low when you are in heavy fog?

Yeah, I agree they are pretty much worthless, and don't shine much light on the ground especially with the HID headlights. Yours are not faulty, they are all that way. I almost think they are there for looks only.

I replaced mine with PIAA Plasma Ion Yellow H11 55W bulbs and aimed the fogs a bit. Aiming takes a torx bit. The lighting is now much better. Yellow works better in fog than white.

55W? That's your answer right there. What's the price for them, and do they have them in 5k temp?

The pair was around $55. I got them from Tire Rack. I did not look for 5k temp as I wanted "yellow" fogs. There are many options on their site. Just look for H11 bulbs. That's what fits.

Should I stay in the 5k temp range, and does that actually have something to do with the bulb temp? Like would a 8k color temp bulb melt something if installed on the ZL1 in the fog lamps?

Looks like I could just get a better quality bulb than the stock bulbs and problem solved?

4300k is the brightest you will get. Lower around 3k will get you yellow. A little lower will be green and super dim. Like dollar store flashlight dim. Above 4300k like 5k or 6k is a little dimmer and more blue than white. 5k is the best compromise if your after looks. If you want lighting for fog you want yellow.

The temp indicates the color/light output. Not the temperature of the actual bulb.

So the temp is a rating of the color not the temp of the bulb or the brightness of the light?

Correct. 4300k is true daylight and also the temp OEMs use just for reference. That's what RS headlights are.

4300k is daylight. That's why OEMs use it.

I may have to pull the trigger on a H11 11w 5k bulb from Ofer. I currently have a 7.5w set and its just not bright enough.
