Blown front speakers

So my front speakers are blown in my 2001 Z28 and I really need to replace them because I'm going nuts. I finally find a car audio place with reasonable speakers who is going to install $349 speakers (just front) because they're the only speakers this place carries that can be installed without cutting the grills. Ouch on the price, but okay, I need them and I don't want my grills cut or replaced with some after market things that I'll probably kick getting in and out of the car. It ended up that they couldn't be installed because of the dual connection on the factory speakers and they told me to get the speakers from a Chevy dealer and they'd install them for me. Okay, well if I'm going to do that, I'm going to install them myself - der.

The dealer wants $176 a piece and can't tell me who makes the speakers GM is using so I'm back at $349 for who knows what kind of speaker. I found some on line, I think Ecklers or Partstrain that were $126 a piece, made by AC Delco. AC Delco - don't they make parts?

I'm looking for suggestions.

Call Crutchfield... I got a set of Boston Acoustics for my SS (8 years ago, they still sound great) they were plug and play, and $200 to the door. Install is a breeze, you can do it in your driveway in 1/2 hour.

Go to walmart... buy the 2 pack of Pioneers. Around $80. Put them in your self, they are plugin-and-listen. Very easy you will see. Or get a friend to do it for free. Saves you A LOT of money and they sound AMAZING! I got 5 in my car. 2 front, 2 rear, 1 hatch.

don't you think that boston acoustics would warranty their speakers?or at least give you a price break on a new set.

Quick question... when I put mine loud, it has some distortion. they are Pioneer 3ways. Is that my stock amp they they are hooked up to? Should I wire them directly to my Sony deck with new, great sound quality, speaker wire? I have it all waiting, was going to do it to see if it fixes the problem.

these are some pics of a 02 SS we are working on... the Speakers are Hybrid Audio Technology. they are a great brand with trmendous sound quality. the front doors have the Clarus line (a bit higher end then you are probably looking for) but the Imgine series are closer tot he 200.00 range for a 6.5 inch convertable (can be either compnents or coax) and they will drop right into your doors behind the factory grille.

We did mold in the front tweeter into the A-pillars but still maintining a factory look.

Yes, I have the Monsoon. The audio guy told me I have 2 connections going to the speaker, I think he said one is for the tweeter and the other is for the full range - which is why he couldn't put speakers in my car. He had a '99 Z28 and knew everything about the stock sound system so I have no reason to doubt what he's telling me. I've installed quite a few radios, have no problem doing it myself. My hunny was having a monster system put in his Caddy so I figured I'd have my speakers replaced while we were waiting for his project, and that's when I found out I need speakers with dual connections.

I'll definitely look into that. I love BAs, was psyched that they came in the new Camaro. They're wicked popular on the east coast, I'm bummed they're not so popular out here and have to be special ordered. :(

I replaced mine with ones I got from crutchfield. The amp powers the full and not the tweeter. You have to cut the wires on the speaker and solder them the right way.
