IMO the Z/28 was a great idea gone wrong. The concept was solid, the design was solid, the execution was solid, the marketing was solid, but the failure came in the pricing. There is no reason this car should be 75k, when you look at what the ZL1 offers for 56k. Are a set of shocks, super sticky tires, and brakes really worth $19,000 over a ZL1 which has a superior powertrain and modern comfort features? Are there really any of us out here who can run a ZL1 to its full potential, and need the additional 10% the Z/28 may offer on a track?

I wouldn't complain about the $75k MSRP if Team Camaro put a supercharged LS9 engine in it. The LS9 has a much stronger block, longger distance between cylinders, and a reliable valvetrain.

At least those of us that wanted an old school ride, got what we wanted. Was I happy with the price? No.
Am I very very happy with the car, Yes!
There in lies the caveat.

I agree with you for the most part, except for the price of the performance bits. Would I have bought my Z/28 @ $75k? No, but I understand the rational behind the pricing, plus I believe that GM really didn't want or intend to sell more than a very limited number of units, which the price virtually ensured would occur. Something is worth only what someone will pay for it. Is a loaded Z06 worth $20k over a base model Z06? Is the Nismo version of the GT-R worth $50k over the standard one?
However,
LS7 retails about $2500 above LSA.
Brakes retail for ~$15k and even discounted will cost you more than $10K.
Tires are $2300/set
Suspension kit which includes the DSSV shocks $3600.
So street prices with shipping/tax will run you the $19k difference you mention.

I think one of the things that gets forgotten is GM needed to build a # of these to be able to race them, which they did, and won a major pro sports car championship last year beating all comers, including Ford , Porsche, BMW, Aston Martin etc. They will sell every one of them too.

I daily drive the car when the weather is sunny or dry. As far as practicality is no problem for me. Ive had no issues at all and the ride is hardly as harsh as folks make it out to be. Limited market, Limited numbers.

When I had a 2013 ZL1, nobody said " wow a LSA engine ! " ...when I open the hood of my new 2014 red Z/28. people say "wow a 427 engine ! "
I think the limited production makes this car of interest to many people.

Either way if they make a z28 or not it is the end of the 427 era with the Cafe Fleet Standards. I think it will have a special place in history.

My mistake, didnt think of your perspective in New York, makes all the sense in the world now. The cold weather, snow, and rough roads. Quite right.

yesterday, i went to visit my salesman who sold me my camaro in Oct. 13. he said go next door to their other sales bldg to see a new black z28. i went to look and salesmen were all over me. that is the first time i had seen one actually in person. it was so cold out and windy, but it was a 2015 black one . it had bird crap on it and was dirty, which was surprising. but it was really nice. it was only 25 degrees so no chance to even test drive it if they would have let me. the recarros were nice and those big brakes and wheels. i coiuldnt believe how low the front was with that splitter. but, i think this car could hold its value since limited production, and 427, etc. this particular car had air. what was a turnoff was the LS interior, as it looked like a dash from the LS with no MY LINK. but, was it a badass car? yes it was!

How would it hold its value when they were just being sold for 54k brand new.
