If you look at math we can get a good idea of what the Z/28 will do with a good driver. (and the magazines have already posted low 12s)

In the list above the best 60ft also has the best e/t (as it should). But for sake of argument lets use my time as a ref. as I know my cars weight and whp stock.
  • My 1LE full weight is 3873lbs, Z/28 is in the 3830ish range: Delta of 43lbs
  • My 1LE made 396whp on a Mustang Dyno, Z/28 made 448 on same dyno (months apart) so the Delta is about 42whp.
  • The 1LE and Z/28 share the same trans/gearing and rear 3.91 gearing. The difference is the OD of the tires.
  • When Motor trend swapped the Z/28 wheels on a 1LE they went from 13.0 in the 1/4 to a 12.7 E/T. Delta of -0.3 seconds (similar to adding a 4.11 gear to a 1LE with stock size tires)
So what does all the above mean?

Take my 12.991 run with a 2.155 60ft....(rough) math tells us that if I ran a 2.055 60ft I could have run 12.791

Take the 12.791 and add the smaller OD of the 305/30/19 which is worth about -0.3 seconds......I am at a theoretical 12.491

Add the 42 whp advantage of the Z/28 and that 12.491 becomes (roughly) a 12.041

If both driver are the same weight and both cars have the same fuel in the tank you can take that 43lbs out now. 12.041 is now a 12.00 E/T

On a great day with a good driver that can cut a 2.0 60ft or better there is no reason the Z/28 cannot run a high 11s in the 1/4 mile.

Thank you for following my logic!
Matt

Every -0.1sec removed from the 60ft time is worth -0.2sec in the E/T

EXP: 2.2 60ft @ 13.00 could be a 12.8 w/2.1 60ft or 12.6 w/2.0 60ft.

On average at the track a drag radial on a street car may be worth a -0.2 to -0.3 reduction in 60ft at best depending on the driver and track prep. You might see just over a 1/2 second ET reduction on average.

Your logic follows well. Some of the direct math calculations may not hold up in the real world because of huge variations in driver ability with a 6spd manual. Otherwise, it does appear a high 11 is theoretically possible. I can't believe that the best 60' is 2.0 on stock tires...1.9x should be easily attainable. The Goodyears aren't that terrible when they have some heat in them. Does the car bog or what?

The coolest and best camaro made since 1969 is what this car is regardless of how fast it accelerates in a straight line..... IMO

That's not what we are discussing though. Title clearly states 1/4 mile times

It does not matter! He just said what his thoughts are about the Z/28 and I agree with him. Your response was not needed and is clearly scolding the guy for making a remark about his thoughts on the car. Gosh, take it easy.We are all here to learn and talk to each other about these camaro's.
