This car is a good deal...now that we know the warranty covers track abuse for 5 years - that is just game changing.

when you go to flip a car the less money you lose = more money you have to buy the next car.

It a pretty complex math problem though I don't expect everyone to get it.

plus you do relize if they build z28's in 2015 there could easily be as many of them on the planet as there are zr1's. they don't build even close to 2k a year of them. if they came along and built 4k Z/28's in 2015 it proablaby would be same total production. there were proabalby ~6-7k zr1's built out.

if I had know GM was going to overproduce the Zl1 like they did I may have bought the GT500. I think it will have better resale in hindsight. that was hard to know going in though as ford builds 4500-5k of those and GM only built 2k zl1's in 2012 so at that point I thought the Zl1 might have an advantage but I was wrong.
Well the Z/28 will still be more rare than the Zr1 and more collectable. Just because unlike ppl with the Zr1 the some will be not driving them and will be put up with low miles! Didn't know some base their car purchase on resale value! You should get the supercharged Challenger that is coming out, since you're worried about resale value !

Which is fair. Tracking and racing are two very different things.

I'd love to see someone modify/build a 1LE for less than $75k that could outperform the Z. Put them head2head in the standard tests and see who emerges the winner. Would be a cool exercise.

Outperform it @ what? Road course? Drag strip? Both?

Building a 415 cube LS3 is easy. Getting 5-and-change n/a hp is easy. Throwing a complete suspension system under one is easy. Gumball tires on light forged wheels is a phone call away. Nitrous is easy. A blower is easy. Outrunning a Z/28 is probably not out of the realm of possibility, for less than $75Gs.

But what are you left with? A tinker toy. Something that the depreciation-sensitive will go apoplectic, over. Something that very few others may want.

And something that, when the gremlins set in, you better have a reserve of fund$ much greater than the $75Gs you're targeting...

Performance co$t$...how FA$T did you wanna go?

Again, against any other new offering from any other Manufacturer, who delivers more for le$$ right off the showroom floor? That can be licensed/insured for actual road use and/or idled down to the Shake Shack for the Friday Night Cruise-In? And taken to Hometown Motors for warranty-covered repairs/replacements? No one, nada, nil, zilch...

Ain't it the truth?

Everybody wants to see blah blah blah. No one willing to man up, do a build, and document the cost and ultimate performance. Talk is cheap, so boring to listen to the mental masturbation posts.

As others in this post have already said, most people upset with the price are the ones who could never afford to buy the car to begin with period! It wasn't designed to be a daily driver to show off and brag to your friends. We already have those parked in the driveway or garage. Time to "get over it"!

The z/28 price is definitely not bad nor over the top. But with the pre quoted price of the new z06 vette only being approxmatley $5K more. I've changed my mind and will wait for the z06 since already having a ZL1. But I agree with everyone the z/28 being fairly low production, chances are it will retain a strong resalel value.

I hope that the wave of extremely positive reviews -- and astonishing lap times -- puts this thread to rest, once and for all...

If the Z06 is only 5K more, fully loaded then the Z/28 get me 4 of them, that car will be north of 100K.
