Question What number is my car? And how many were made?

I've done a thread search but nothing came up after a cursory glance. I'm sure the info I'm looking for is here somewhere; I just didn't see it. Probably not typing in the right question because IDK how to word it. How can I find out what number my Camaro is-- that is, out of all of them produced, where am I? I thought it was at the end of the VIN number but I'm seeing that's a plant sequence code? Since it's a 2011 the sites I've seen aren't telling me what it is because it's not in their database yet.

Also, is there any way to know how many IBM Camaros have been produced?

It's the last 6 digits. Camaro is only produced in one plant so it's the same.

On the 2010 it was the last 6 digits -100,000... Ie VIN 123,456 is car # 23,456. Prob same on 11/12. The cars with "0" are CTF cars. So 000,123 is CTF car 123, VIN 100,123 is car number 123 of regular production. CTF-captured test fleet.

How many IBMs...

Also if you look at the Vin before your sequence number all 2010's are A's, 2011's are B's and 2012's are C's. Example A9 then your production number. At least that's how I see it.

So my last six are 171101. What's that decode to? #71,101? They said only 65,000 were delivered so far this year as of now so that makes me wonder if that number is off.

Well is that delivered to customers? You car could have a higher VIN #. You need to look at total 2011's produced.

VIN's do not nesscarly leave the factory in order once parked on the loading lots.

Model year vs calendar year. Your 71101 is model year 2011, the 65000 is produced in calendar year 2011.

The model year runs from July - June for the Camaro

OH. OK. So I got mine in July and it's got a big number, so it was one of the last produced for 2011 probably?

I'd guess you'd have to have a VIN well into the 90000 range to be one of the last or if over 100000 produced in MY2011, then you'd have a low 5 digit number prefixed with a 2 as opposed to a 1.

If you want your build date, have your dealer print off the build sheet for your VIN #. I'm guessing yours was produced in March/April 2011?

I see 2,702 IBMs were made in 2010. And after the tsunami they ran out of the paint, so not that many more could have been made for 2011, right?
