Wireless Car Sensors Vulnerable to Hackers

Found an interesting article relating to the hacking of tire-pressure-monitoring-systems (TPMS).

The complete article can be found in the link above @ Technology Review, and was written by Robert Lemos.

A quote from the first page of the article: "...The team could eavesdrop on communications and, in some circumstances, alter messages in-transit. That let the team give false readings to a car's dashboard. They could also track a vehicle's movements using the unique IDs of the pressure sensors, and even cause a car's ECU to fail completely"

The research team that discovered how to hack two "popular" TMPSs is presenting their work at the USENIX Security conference this week.

While a practical hack on a moving vehicle would be difficult at best, I thought it interesting that they could shadow a vehicle with directional antennas and effectively hack the ECU. Not fun!!!

Myself, I pictured it as more of a black-suburban-with-feds-in-it kind of moment. (Trying to keep it in the GM family)

Why someone smart has a selection of points type Dizzys and spare parts for a typical American car in their survival kit. As once the bombs drop and all those EMP waves make every electronic part useless, those will still work
