Yea but good luck finding a lap time on same day with same driver for a Scat Pack and base SS. Braking, Figure 8 and lateral are just the easiest things to measure consistently, and MT does it for all their cars so the variables are reduced as much as you can get.

The 2010 SS was not very well regarded for its handling. There were a lot of bad reviews about its handling IIRC. Looks to be a little better than the new scat pack though.

Using the 2013 MY for example before destination charges and GG tax starting MSRP's R/T $29,995, GT $31,095, 1SS $32,635, GT premium $35,095, 2SS $36,135, SRT8 core $38,995, BOSS 302 $42,995, SRT8 $44,195, GT500 $54,200, ZL1 $54,350. I would also like to point out the only two cars that I know of that get the GG tax on that list is the SRT8 and ZL1 so those will be even more. So, going by price points in trim levels do you really think the SRT8, SS and GT should be compared the way you were doing it? Whether or not you owned a SS or GT is irrelevant because its obvious to see your bias. Yes, the SRT8 was faster then the GT and SS but for the price difference it should be just like the GT500/ZL1 vs the SRT8. I have no problem with you stating that you preferred your SRT8 over the GT/SS. What I do have a problem with is your beat down comments as if the trims are comparable. How about we go over to some Challenger forums and talk about the beat down the RT 5.7 gets from the GT/SS, which are much more comparable from a price point, or how a BOSS is just as fast as a 392 in a straight line but destroys it on a road course for the same money.

There isn't always a model comparison. Seems the SRT cars are priced at and compete with a Chevy model between the SS and ZL1. Compare it to the SS and it is faster but costs a lot more. Compare it to the ZL1 and it is slower but cheaper.
When the SRT had a 6.1 though, it was comparable to the ls3 Camaro but for a lot more dough. |

As for the scat pack it offers great strait line performance value for the dollar. If I was more into them and what they offer it would be tempting. All around performance value I don't see it being any better than a standard SS. All in all it is a good value and a fast car the dodge guys should be proud of. It is currently a strong choice imo.
Now if and when the 16ss comes in at a cheaper starting price as a scat pack with better performance in about every measure, the choice will be a no brainer in my personal opinion. |

Have you guys checked out the rumored times the 350r is doing at Grattan? If it holds up to be true the vette guys are in serious trouble. Better hope ole pill is wrong this time.

Shebly GT350
Does anyone think or know if chevy will release a camaro package to rival the GT350?
I know there is the camaro5 z28, which I would guess will beat the gt350 on the track, but the z28 is far more expensive than the gt350 is suppose to be. I want to buy the new camaro when it comes out but im pretty worried in a year or less that a flat plane camaro or some other model will come out to counter the mustang. Thoughts? Information? A flat plane crank wouldn't work with a 6.2 liter V8. The 5.2 in the GT500 is the largest production FPC V8.
I honestly don't think GM will release a Camaro specifically targeting the GT350. They probably will release an LT4 powered car that may or may not be faster.

I would like to see official times, not rumored. Also would like to see who is driving. If you look at the track times, most are done by magazine drivers, not pros. Plus if you look at the video he has a passenger with no race gear or helmet, so there not even going full bore. So for them to get them times with passenger don't seem accurate to me. Seems impossible.

You shouldn't assume the Z/28 will beat the GT350 based on price alone. According to Ford, the Z/28 tested faster than the base GT350, and maybe a hair faster than the GT350TP, but the GT350R (still considerably less in MSRP) was able to best the Z/28 on whatever track they tested them at....by 1 second. GM is not going to do a FPC V8....I would just forget about that one. Don't sit around and wait forever to get a car you hope might come out. If you want the new SS, then get it. Otherwise, if you are OK with waiting another year at least to see what hi performance model comes out, by all means, do that.

Long tracks with more straights will favor the 350. Tracks with more curves will see the Z/28 putting up a good fight.

It will be fun to see Randy Pobst put up times in the Gt 350 as well as the SS.
He has a bunch of low track times in a wide array of vehicles. |
