If by "seasoned", you mean old...and if by "car guy", you mean having owned a lot of cars, then maybe I qualify!..lol...Definitely no expert, (not sure there really are any),
but my "advice" would be to at least have two cars for different purposes...If you try and do all your dream things to one car, and use it for all purposes, that may not be achievable...Without very deep pockets, odds are project cars are never really "finished", and they take a lot of time and patience...If you get in too big of a hurry, you might find yourself spending money on things you later regret...
Sounds to me like you want two different animals...you need two different cars. My $.02

I have my Camaro for a regular driver and a project in the garage. The problem is whenever I have money to spend on parts, I keep buying Camaro parts. It's really dificult to decide where to spend the money. I'm there now. Engine for the project or 9 inch for the Camaro. Decisions, decisions.

Just build the Camaro. Avoid the temptation to have another car too.

That's the dilemna!...Which one is the project car...and which one can wait!...I think you are doing the right thing, though, by having that choice!...Enjoy!

It's that choice that is killing me. Almost has me at a standstill on both because I can't make the decision. btw, my "project" is a '79 Monte I bought new in 79. Never going to sell that car. Have no intentions of selling the Camaro either.

Yeah, its a tough call, especially if there's a lot of sentimental value...
I've had a few like that...wished I would have kept my '67 Imala...sold it when my kid was born...seemed like the thing to do at the time...lol...

But, hey if you're keeping the Monte Carlo forever, no rush then. Just seemed like the op turned over all his cars, eventually, deciding to have one or two cars...Nothing wrong with putting money into the Camaros at all. My thought was just that if your project car was going to be the one you know you will keep forever, that's the one that doesn't have to be roadworthy all the time...but which one gets the money...yeah, tough call!

I say enjoy yourr cars, regaurdless of weather your going to keep them forever or not. Some may think its a waste of money some may not. I have been to a few dinners with a very rich relative of mine wwwhere the night out in NYC costed over ten grand, and that was just the dinner bill. When I spoke about spending 6 grand in mods for my car he laughed out loud about what a waste of money it would be. That was until I pointed out that the ten grand he just spent on dinner for the group of people tjat night was going to end up in the sewer by the next day. He paused for a minute and said to me you know what maybe the mods you want to make wouldnt be such a waste of money.
Its really just a matter of perspective as to weather its a waste of money or not. So I say do wjat makes you happy, you cant take it with you so you might as well enjoy it while you can

What does you heart and wallet allow for. If you are up for the work and can handle it financially do what floats your boat. If you want to be bored to tears with lots of money in your pocket, leave it stock, dont buy a second car and drive the Camaro til the wheels fall off

I not a seasoned guy but deffinatly a car guy, I have my camaro as my toy to tinker with and have but but also have a ram 1500 for my everyday use. Now I do put mods into both just limit the parts on the ram. I don't smoke, drink, do drugs or even party so I figure all te money I save not doing those is fairly spent into vehicles know I won't get any of it back. I do it because I enjoy it. And I'm only 23. Can't wait to continue for another 30-40 years

I have owned many cars and trucks and jeeps and motorcycles. This car is the first that i have had that needs nothing right out of the box. usually you have to lift a truck, lower a car, put chrome on an bike.
The best advise is just enjoy your car. Do what makes you happy. If you can save the money you will spend on mods, you will quickly have 20-30 grand in 2-3 years time. Time flies by, before you know it, its 2-3 years later. All the sudden you have 30 large to buy a 69 Camaro, Harley etc... While keeping your Camaro.

There's nothing that speaks to you like a cammed / blown American V8, then again there's nothing that speaks to you like a big cammed / big inch / loud piped American V-twin. I have both and they constantly are needing the attention of my wallet but I can say in the end that "Ive done that".
