Intermittent Noise from Front Right Side? Playing card against bicycle spoke sound?

I noticed a new odd sound coming from the front right of my car.

Only can be heard when car is in motion...specifically moving forward from a complete stop. It sounds like a playing card against the spokes of a slowly spinning bicycle wheel. As speed increases, so does the repetition of this sound. Not related to cold or hot starts and it doesn't appear to be the heater core tsb.

Anyone else notice this? Perhaps something clutch related?

small rock in the tire tread or low tire pressure would be the first and simplest thing to look for but i'd imagine you already checked that.

Funny I have been hearing a similar sound over the last week or so (2SS m6). It sounds more like it is coming from under the console/shifter area though. Wife just said tonight when we were out that it sounded like a card in a bike spoke also.

See if there are any stickers hanging off the driveshaft.

The DS has several bar code stickers on it, and if they come loose, it will sound just like a card flapping in spokes.

I didn't see any of the barcoded decals on the visible portions of the driveshaft. Could the decals be placed on the driveshaft portion hidden/covered by the heat shields?

Did you check that ^^^^^^ .. this was the first thing that came to my mind .. if your tire picked something up, it sounds pretty much just like what you described.

I did check all 4 tires while it was on the lift and there were no rocks in any of the tires.

The barcoded decal on the driveshaft is plausible. Next time its on the lift, I'm going to check to see if there is a decal on the ds around the shifter area.

The search continues...

Mine does this periodically (V6 M6). I had the dealer put it up in the air, and the mechanic and I looked at everything: tags, heat shields, rocks in tires, drive shaft bolts, etc. Mine does it with clutch in, clutch out, all gears, brake on , brake off, blower motor on and off. Couldn't find the culprit.

Then, a couple days later it just stopped. For about 3 months, nothing. Then it started up again a couple weeks ago.

I may take it back just to document that it's still there.

There are a ton of threads on this sound. Your dealer has a fix. I believe it is some new valve for HVAC??

I wouldn't describe my sound as the "rice krispies in the glove box" sound that you're referring to with that fix. There is no gurgle to what we're describing, so I didn't think that was it. Also, that TSB says V8 only. Noise we're talking about is clearly a "clicking", like the card in your bike tire.

I guess it can't hurt to ask about it, though.

There is a couple of clicking sound bulletins. One says to check the driveshaft for a bar code label that is half hanging off. There is another for adding a washer/spacer to an axle. I'd look close at the driveshaft for any hanging stickers, if not - I'd have the dealer look at it.
