Dealership just got in an SLP ZL1 (photos) and GM question
I have to say this is a MEAN looking car in person. I LOVE the front lip and rear exhaust. (wish it was available for purchase)
Does anyone know if GM will make them change the ZL1 name now that GM has there own ZL1? |

This car was out back at the Stingray Chevrolet Car show two weeks ago down in Plant City I have a few pics of it.
I am sure they have a 1 year run with the name for 2011. Sean

i believe SLP owns the rights to the ZL1 logo.i think GM got permission to use it.

GM owns the rights to the ZL1 name just like GMMG the name and logo is used with permission.

As far as I have read and understand, SLP is only making 69 of their ZL1's and only for the 2011 model year. My speculation is that is why GM is waiting till '12 to produce theirs. SLP and GM came to an agreement on the use of the ZL1 name but the particulars are not disclosed.

No, they don't have to change the name, these are 2011 cars. The GM ones will be 2012

SLP and GM worked out an agreement where SLP can use the ZL1 name on the 69 (750HP) cars that they are going to build in 2011. Come Jan. 2012, SLP will no longer be able to use ZL1 on their cars. However, SLP maintained ownership of the "ZL" logo for their ZL550 and ZL585 model Camaros. GM will start building their own ZL1 Camaros (550+HP) in Jan. 2012 and will have exclusive rights to the "ZL1" logo. I hope that is not too confusing.
