New Guy - Random observations

Hello to the C5 world. I've been lurking for several weeks and like what I see so I thought I would join. I'll share a little info about my Camaro and other observations to catch up to everyone else.

- On 11/11/09 I bought a 2010 VR 2SSRS LS3 with silver rally stripes and the painted engine cover.
- I haven't seen the VR with the silver stripes anywhere on the forum so is it rare?
- I traded in a Black 03 Infiniti G35 6MT and paid cash for the difference.
- I paid MSRP less the crediut union and $500 return discounts
- I test drove a SIM SS LS3 the day before and knew it was time to step it up and let the g35 go.
- I wanted a VR LS3 and with great luck for me one arrived the next day so took delivery strasight from the transport truck with 3.5 test mikes on it!
- I hail from the original muscle car days and owned several small and big block 60's GM iron and even a 70 Mustang Mach 1 ( no hate mail please - and it would haul the mail!)
-The LS3 pulls like a 60's big block and that is a good thing!
-The DIC says I'm averaging 14.5 MPG but that last two tanks by hand calculation only yeilded 11.5 MPG ( must have been those demonstration rides to friends and family)
- I've got 1000 miles on her(Kammi) and she has been stuck snow bound in frosty Ohio for about 3 weeks now.
-She is not my DD but I do drive her every chance I get. Not afraid to get her wet or dirty but am afraind of summer tires on frozen roads. Tried that - not safe!
- Still getting use to the restricted visibility when parking and backing up but the trade off is I do love the hunkered down in my own cockpit feel.

That's enough for now. I will post replies to some interesting threads I've recently seen. And oh I know = this thread is worthless w/o pictures so here are a couple of Kammi shots:

"LS3 pulls like a 60's big block" In the 70's I used to cruise Woodward Ave. Among other cars, I had a 1968 427 Corvette and a 1970 440-6 pack Cuda'. The first time I released the clutch on my new SS it felt like it could pull stumps out of the ground. I agree with you 100%!

Great Job Chevy 376 cubic inches feels like a lot more!!!!!!!!!!!

I really liked my g35. I was the most affordable good looking and performing car I could get in 03 when I had the chance and the money. But I do not regret the trade one bit as deep down I'm a muscle care straight line kind of guy and the Camaro takes care of business.

As to the stripes - I know they look white in the photos. They are silver and look great to my eye. In general I think this car looks much better in 3D to the live eye than 2D in photos. The reaction on the road will soumnd familiar - lots of stares, thumbs up and gas statiion conversations. No car I've owned before has drawn so much positive attention.

Welcome to Camaro5, and congratulations on your purchase!!! That is a very good looking car. Great choice in color/stripes IMHO. If I didn't go for black, I would have grabbed the VR.

Yours is the first I've seen with silver stripes. Looks great!!!

Yep right there with you, for me it was mid 60's to mid 70's. Cruised Woodward, Gratiot and Telegraph ... Ah those were the days of big block muscle. Even my 2LT is able to out pull my first gen Camaro, but not my 70 SS 396 ... Loved those GM big block torque monsters ...

I'm glad you said torque monssters. Everyone likes to talk about the 426 HP - which is great but on the street its that 420 LB of torque that makes this care a hoot to drive. That's big block numbers in a small block package! HP for show and Torque for go!
