That must be an old page, I thought all those motors were built and sold already?

Well the ZL1 in 1969 wasn't really a "nameplate" so much as an option code like any other. Except unlike any other option code, ZL1 was the way for drag racers to order a Camaro with an engine that wasn't part of any package. No emblems were on the cars or anything giving it away. Just like the Z28 was in 1967.
Wouldn't it be great if GM repeated that with the LS9 today? Not part of a promoted package in the Camaro but what if you could option an LS9 to be dropped into your 2010 RS Camaro!? |

So for those of us that would actually buy a ZL1, what ideas do you have for Gm on what it should be?
I'll go first. Top GM Engine at the time is a given. Today I would think LS9 Need to lighten the car. -Carbon Fiber body pieces where possible -Lighter wheels and suspension components -Some (not all) luxuries removed like power seats Allow options like RS to be ordered with the ZL1 which might contradict the weight savings but we need options right? I wonder what about $20k increase in price would get us for weight savings alone. Would 500lbs be possible? And as far as the weight savings goes, The Z28 needs to get a similar treatment. |
