SS vs. 370Z

BIG weight difference, but worthy to compare these two relative to their homeland muscle car status.

370Z specs from Motortrend

SS specs from Automobile

why did you source 2 different magazines?

SS dominates in a straight line, 370z is a bit tighter handling wise but the gap isnt huge.

good comparison. I like the contrast between these two.The 370 gets the job done through suspension tuning and relatively light weight while the SS does it with much more hp but an obvious weight disadvantage. Still, even with its weight problem the SS should be faster around a road course if it has ample straightaways. 100hp is hard to overcome, even with a 500lbs advantage. I think with about 30-40more hp the 370would be even in the straights and faster around the course.

Those vq motors are proving to be pretty mod unfriendly.

Isn't there a problem with the Z overheating at the track, I could have sworn I've seen something to that effect in one of the enthusiast magazines

Truth. They are pretty rung out from the factory. My G35 only gained 16rwhp/5ft lbs from test pipes, CAI, intake plenum and catback exhaust. Retail on all those mods was around $2300. The only way to get power out of them is to go FI, but then you are talking BIG money. Those engines are def. not "bang for the buck" friendly.

i believe your talking about the break failure that happened in one of the magazine's track tests. i think it was car and driver??? nissan has since addressed that problem with new brake pad option.

I was talking with one of the 350Z owners at the track the other day and he was talking about dropping an LS2 in his. He was very fast around the track on full aftermarket suspension, brakes, wheels and full race slicks - I was a little faster though

This is a truely comparible car. It is alot more compairable than most threads like GTR vs SS. The price is very close and the performance is also pretty close. I dont much care for non American cars but if I had to choose one then this would be at the top of my list in my price range.

Last I heard, that company in Alabama was trying to do just that. They already perfected the Rx7 and 240sx LSX swap and were trying to do the same with the 350zx and RX8.

Anything that I've seen places the SS ahead of the 370Z, strip or road course.

Relevant info on the 370Z: http://www.roadandtrack.com/tests/lo...n-370z-touring

Good overall with some attention to a few areas.
