Question Should I go with the Flowmaster Exhaust?

I 've got a 2011 Camaro 2SS with A/T. I'm looking at making my first mod. I really want BIG V8 muscle car sound!!!

I heard someone elses Camaro the other day and it sounded awesome. He told me he had Flowmaster exhaust installed. Unfortunately I didn't ask if it was axle back or cat back or any other specifics.

I talked to Chris at 2Edge Performance and he recommended a Flowmaster American Thunder cat back. $1000 for parts/labor.

Is this a fair price?

Do I need cat back or would axle back give me the same sound? What is the benefit of getting cat back?

I'm looking for recommendations from all you experts!!

Thank you for your help!

Susan

Result in installing my Flowmster and running it for around 3 months, had excessive air-leak with a blown exhaust-gasket and bolt thread was cracked. This is due to the diameter of manifold being larger than stock.

I only found out of the clear air-leak noise when getting my CORSA catback installed; the Flowmaster had alot of drone inside and couldn't hear the airleak rattle.

Now ive replaced the gaskets (2) and bleeded the bolt and now the performance and quality ofsound is amazing with the CORSA and the gain of HP n Torq is remarkable.

Remember, the air-leak did reduce my HP and Torq and it was clearly noticable.

Don't get me wrong, the Flowmaster American Thunder kit has pure muscle soud youre lookin' for and i personally love it!
The reason this might of happened to me because i have the v6.

The american thunder is a nice catback, sound's good and even better with headers! All flowmaster's have drone, I have 1 chamber's and the drone is bad at 70 in 6th, but under normal driving its not bad at all. I installed one chamber's on my stock catback before I had headers and it soundend very good, you could just do super 40s on your stock pipe to save some money and still get good sound. Headers or high flow cats will make the biggest difference in volume... the stock cats really hold the cars sound and power back!

I have Flowmaster catback for over a year and like it, Im heading to Jannetty Friday to get headers and cats. also the kit to make the flowmaster a true 3" all the way, the flowmaster necks down to 2.5" on the cat side. this exhaust system is fairly tame around town and at normal speeds, then ir roars when you get on the car.

Do you have dyno results of a stock or a bolt on ls3/l99 camaro losing power after a flowmaster install?

Love my American Thunder catback, my second mod after tinting the windows. Had it for about 16 months. No problems at all. Except I'm not sure if the radio works. Why listen to the radio when I can listen to the car?

Love mine but I am to understand they dont work well if you plan on getting forced induction. They hold back some power.

Once you get to the point in power, that a set of flowmasters is holding you back... you might as well put cutouts for the track anyway! My car picked up noticeable throttle response with my 1 chambers.

Do some searches for L99's, aftermarket exhaust, and AFM...... any modification to the L99 is going to make the AFM very noticable and very annoying..... when it goes into 4 cyl mode it will sound like someone stuffed potatoes in your exhaust pipes. If you are willing to tune AFM off and lose your warranty, get any exhaust, if you want to keep AFM on be very careful what exhaust you get, any low bass exhaust like Borla or Magnaflow will not sound good in 4 banger mode, try looking at Solo's axleback with a "J" pipe made to cancel certain drone zones, have heard good things about them, or just go for it and get Headers, CAI, Catback exhaust, and a tune to shut off AFM and you will have a Camaro the way it should be..... Good Luck!

I had them, loved the sound, and even dealt with the freeway drone. Don't worry about HP unless your going FI at some point. They make a difference, but some other exhaust can make more power if that's what you want.
