Z28 or Trans Am?

im going to be getting a new car very soon (new to me). i wanted to get a 5th gen camaro and finance but im only 19 and im not going to work for a car even tho its an amazing car. So i have narrowed it down to getting a z28 or a trans am and i really cant decide which one i want, can i maybe get some opinions on what you guys think i should get? I have had a 93 z28 in the past as my first car so im kinda looking more towards the trans am but you gotta love the look of the camaro. so any suggestions, opinions, or advice would be amazing to help my decision so much easier! THANKS!!!

I speak from experience.

My 2000 Trans Am has 36,500 miles on it and right now..

I'm still working on readjusting the headlamps due to the car having been hit in the past and the whole assembly has been off. It's not a simple pair of torx screws; but rather my unbolting the entire headlamp and having to adjust it. However if you are mechanically inclined and do your research (I can't stress it enough) it's not that bad. Also they will never 'stick closed' they can be mechanically raised and lowered within a minute. It's been that way since 1982.

The fix is also easy; 9/10 it's a stripped gear. Pop the case open and flip the gear over. No money spent, just time invested. They also sell brass gears to replace the plastic ones that come stock in all motors.

Also, T/As of the 98-02 persuasion are notorious for their door panels cracking as an internal stress relief mechanism to cope with the design. It's unsightly but once they crack all the way through it's an easy fix of super glue and reinforcing tape and creates an expansion joint.

But these are cosmetic things. The window motors on both cars will fail. It's not might.. they will. Watch the drivers side door panel, some people gorilla the process and destroy the door; covering their f**k up with super glue. Also, if your car has T-Tops DO NOT WASH IT IN A MACHINE OR WITH PRESSURE!! You will cause the weather stripping to fail and water to get inside.

Other than the above grievances.. I LOVE my T/A and wouldn't trade it for a Camaro. Make sure you find a 6spd Hurst..

Thank you so much for all the above information! I will certainly look very closely at those things when i start shopping around. i still havent made my decision yet and wont base it off of the above things because i do want ttops and both the z or the ta will have them and my door panels and window motors sucked on both my camaros so we will see what happens. but thank you for all your info, your TA is so nice!

Not really. They do sell non flip up conversions to make it like a C6 but those don't look right at all and cost upwards of 2K for a headlamp assembly.

If you spend enough time with that hood up it becomes second nature to bother with. I was worried about it too but once I started tinkering I found it's pretty easy to deal with. Also they do sell HID conversion kits contrary to popular belief.

http://www.blackbirdlighting.com/

To convert the whole car from Sealed beam to the HIDs will cost around 900 bucks if you catch them on a group purchase on LS1tech or other 4th gen sites.

And if my understanding of 93-97 Camaro lamps are correct, the 98-02 lamps are the same size so a LS1 car kit could work for the LT1 Camaro. There's a bunch you can do to these things. The T/As are more luxury appointed and also have inflatable bolsters and lumbar controls that turn the seat from stock to quasi-recaro.

I'll shoot a vid tonight to show them off. Been an option since around 89ish.
