WENT TO MY DEALER TODAY....

Went to my dealer today to ask about a finalized Canadian price for my
2SS/RS. He said, they still haven’t got a final price....huh???

Anyway, he said that my car is being built and they could see the progress of it on their computers and its destined for delivery in end April.

I was introduced to another staff member and he said, "oh you’re the guy with the Camaro... do you know yours is the only one being built from our allocation". He gave me a look that I can only translate that sales are shy of their goals.

Whatever the reason, I am happy I will have the only the first 2SS/RS in my town. Unless of course someone brings it in from another dealer out of town.

BUT HERE IS THE WORRYING THING......

He also said that they are expecting a price increase in the MSRP. He said, that I will be getting the cheapest 2SS ever (as I pre ordered) as the prices are expected to shoot up after allocations.

I dont know how to take that because if sales are low why increase the price, or was the look he gave me really meant, "we could ONLY order one 2SS from our allocation" Not sure what to think.

So I'm worried cos my dealer said they will not go a penny over MSRP and they are just saying this BS to jack up the price on my order. Whatever happens, I wont pay a penny over what the REAL MSRP is for Canada and I told my salesman that as I was leaving and I also told him that I expect honesty from him.

He said of course. To be honest with you, I trust him; he's always been straight up and honest so far! If I get screwed, its not in their interest to get bad publicity.

Get it in writing. The 3300 level means the order was selected for production by the plant.

me thinks he might be thinking of slapping a dealer sticker over the factory sticker...could be wrong, but why is he saying they don't have a final price??

Well, there have been several references by GM that the price might go up, but that those who pre-ordered would get the advertised MSRP pricing. Now, why would they jack up the prices in a bad economy? Just look up supply and demand and what that does to pricing. When the Challengers came out, dealers were jacking up the pricing and people were paying because it was hot and new (demand was high, supply was low and therefore price was high). Once the newness wore off, demand decreased and so did the price. It's basic economics.



As for whether your dealer will try to screw you, no idea there. It is possible, especially if your dealer is an idiot. Just ask Blur.

Cool New Information on STRIPES

Hey all, I went to dealer yesterday to check on my status and drop the Hurst Shifter so as not to delay my order or lose my spot in the allocation. I also had him check on the status of the Stripe Package. I had ordered the B7X RPO White factory stripe package and wanted to make darn sure that it was the two stripe rally style. Nothing on official chevy info confirms this. Sure a lot of blog stuff suggests this but nothing from chevy directly. He called the production dept while I was there in the office. The person he spoke to actually checked and then re-checked and said that the factory B7X was the fat single stipe over the hood and on the trunk. Yuk! I then considered ordering the Dealer Installed stripe package but upon research it says that the are the same as the factory installed stripe package. Since parts did not yet have any to verify in person I decided to drop the stripes from my order so as not to end up having the same Constraint as the Shifter come up and delay the order. I think it would be best to wait and see what stripe packages are available and when available then have them installed. Actually, I think I will bite the bullet and have Rally Stripes custom painted to make them more durable and have them done like the concept cars over the hood down onto the nose and over the spoiler. Priority #1 Status 1100 IBM SS/RS Black Interior Polished Wheels.

Dude, the white rally stripes are a factory installed option and have been from day one. The code for the stripes is indeed B7X.

Oh, and your dealer is an idiot.

I'm getting B7W and had the same concern . The dealer told me they are rally after checking with GM. Just want to thank you for the reassurance.

I think you misunderstood me. What I was referring to was why would they want to jack up the price if the DEMAND was low????

Well, demand so far was at least 11,000 people and that is without the general public even knowing that the car exists (basically). I think the feeling (by dealers and possibly GM) is that when there are 11,000 of these out advertising for them the demand by the general public will shoot up, driving up the price. It's a little hard to say at this point what demand will be outside of the enthusiasts like us.

EDIT: If initial demand is low and they try to jack the price up, then they will quickly start offering incentives to get the price lower and the demand up. It is easier to lower the price and drive demand than to raise the price once the cars are out there. Make sense?

GM raised the price on the 2009 Corvette TWICE in the first 3 months of production, even though they are rotting on lots by the thousands, and they're shutting down the plant for extended periods.

They're not always real clever.
