Magnuson 2300 Valley pan oil leak

I have the 2300 on my car and have had a oil leak pretty much from the get go. Finally got a chance to chase it down and my shop Lamotta Performance found it to be the valley pan gasket and plate on the back corner by the insert on the gasket. They contacted Magnuson and they said they were aware of the issue and it had been corrected, so they overnighted a new gasket and plate to the shop (Thank you Magnuson).

Got the new gasket and it seemed off too so Lamotta put some paint markings on it, placed on the block and sure enough it was worse than the original. Lamotta contacted Magnuson again and sent some pics to explain the issue. Magnuson looked into the issue and sent another gasket....ended up being bad again. So now we are on the 3rd gasket and plate and they will be installing it tomorrow hopefully. It dosen't look like we got a "new manufactured gasket" but it was modified where it needed to be, I assume they will change the manufacturing for the new plates.

I just wanted to let everyone know that Magnuson had a issue with these and will take care of the issue for you. Magnuson also said if this doesn't fix my oil leak they will pay the shop for their time to fix it agian since Lamotta ate this one (because they are a great shop).

I also like to say that so far even though the issue isn't fixed yet that Magnuson has handled the situation great as they next dayed the gaskets everytime on their dime and its nice to see a company that take customer and shop feedback to heart and not tell us that "we never had that issue before" or " you should have had a dealer install it".

just use the factory gm gasket, they are re-usable and make sure the magnacharger plate is true.

Here is a pic where I guess the insert is higher causeing the gasket not to seal.

here is the paint

here is where there was no paint in that corner from it not touching.

Can you try some appropriate Permatex RTV silicone .. a bead where it leaks until they get a proper gasket?

Permatex® High-Temp Red RTV Silicone Gasket
OEM specified. Formulated for hi-temp applications, or heavy-duty use (such as towing, etc.). Replaces almost any cut gasket by making reliable “formed-in-place” gaskets that resist cracking, shrinking and migrating caused by thermal cycling. Coats pre-cut gaskets to increase reliability. Temperature range -65ºF to 650ºF (-54°C to 343°C) intermittent; resists auto and shop fluids. First generation 1970-1980 gasket maker.

I am in no hurry and the shop really prefers to do it once and the correct way. Right now Lamotta thinks the gasket we have now could leak, but Magnuson said " put it on we will foot the bill if it leaks agian" so Lamotta is going to put it on tomorrow. Hopefully everyone benifits and this gets corrected...as Magnuson was under the impression that they had already fixed the issue, but obviously they are still correcting it.

I just wanted to get it out so people are not chasing oil leaks and thinking it was a install issue. Also to let everyone know at this point Magnuson customer service has been GREAT!

Interesting, seems to be a growing issue, but sounds like Magnuson is a stand up company and willing to do what it takes to correct the problem. I really like that.

My Maggie will be coming off for the LS3 conversion, will be interesting to see if something is found. I'll post if so.

Its not the rubber gasket that is wrong it is the pan/plate I am not sure exaclty what the true name of it is. Maybe someone from Maggie or with more knowledge on what their parts are called will chime in here.

Well got it back together and its better but they think it is still leaking so they are going to keep the car alittle longer and check it out before we call Magnuson again.

I am alittle disappointed in how Magnuson tried to "fix it" they just ground it down and from what I was told it wasn't a even grind and definitely not machined. Hopefully Jessika will chime in here and let us all know what is going on and what the permanent fix is, I have sent her a few PM's but no response in this thread or to the PM's.

Is it the valley cover plate that is the problem? If so, whey don't they just send you a new one?
