Best track tires

I have never tracked my car and was wondering from those of you with experience what the best tires would be for the stock rims?

Dragstrip or circuit track? Im using nitto nt05r on the back and factory goodyear on the front. I chose these over the mickey thompsons strictly from a mileage perspective as they arent quite as soft as the mickeys for daily driving. I live in florida so I can run summer and drag tires all year long although the nt05r is a little more slippery in my the rain than I had hoped. The nt555r nitto was better grip than factorygoodyear and better rain traction than my present choice but not quite as sticky for track.

Road Atlanta's curcuit track... I have MT drag radials allready because with the horsepower i'm pushing the stock Goodyears on the back were a joke.

Road course are great & addictive.... lol

Regardless of the tires you put on, the most important thing for you is gear selection & throttle control. you might have to keep all the traction control & such turned on to help.

Where somewhere else with less power runs 3rd gear, you might have to run 4th due the added torque that you have so the rear end doesn't step out.

I usually run 19" rims at the track but I just ordered the Toyo R888's that fit on the stock rims. The sizes are a little different. The front that fit the rim are a 285/35R-20 while the rears are 315/30R-20. The front tires list as 0.1 inch taller than the rear on the spec chart. I'm going to try them and see what happens but as best as I can tell this is the best road racing tire combo that can be mounted on the stock rims.

I have used the 285/35-20 with a square setup and they work great.

I did not even think of getting all 285's.... I actually ordered these just to get a taller tire for the Texas mile. I now have 14 different tires for my ZL1... I'm sure the Toyo 285 has a lot more grip than the Goodyear 305 but in a one mile drag race with no "drag" tires allowed, I need every bit of grip in the back I can possibly get to translate into speed at the end. The event is about 40 days out so I'll let you guys know how it goes. I know the Toyo's make a lot more road noise but I'm considering leaving them on for commuting tires because it is so easy to spin the goodyears....even at 70 or 80 mph. Texas mile will be the big test.

Im curious how the shorter rear tire affects the handling of the car. Hopefully it increases the oversteer a bit

you shouldnt effect the contact patch or traction of the tire by any appreciable amount, but you will change the gearing slightly which will increase the torque multiplication

Hilarious...I have 14 as well. 4 stock goodyears on factory wheels, 4 toyo proxes on 20" aftermarket wheels, 2 18" Z06 replicas with m/t drag radials, 2 17"x10" bogart rear m&h drag radials, 2 17"x4.5 weld rts m&h skinny fronts.

Are you getting better times with the mickey T's or with the M&H?

I may have to make it out to the Texas mile so I can see your cooling set up.

agreed, but im more interested in the amount of oversteer the lower sidewall will induce (which is what im after)
