drunk drivers suck

SO a good friend of mine had a 2013 camaro 1le/2SS in white with all the bells and whistles. We were suppose to meet up this past Friday but unfortunately he couldnt make it. Found out a drunk driver hit his car at 60mph right into his driver side door. Police officers and doctors were surprised he even walked away from this accident. Fortunately he's just sore and now he definitely wants to buy a new 1LE knowing that safety will never be an issue!

Hope all works out well ...

I have ZERO tolerance for anyone who drinks or texts while driving.

Glad he is ok. With all the education about drinking and driving there is no reason to b driving drunk. Sadly, it takes 4 or 5 times before any jail time is handed down.

Its good to know these cars can absorb some impact.

Wow, impressive and makes me feel better about a possible accident. Since everything is ok, he should get a little compensation, am I correct? And I dont mean from insurance. Drunks should never be excused.

With it obviously being most important that your friend isn't hurt, I am highly impressed with just how durable these cars are. They didn't exceed all safety regulations for the fun of it...they meant it!

To all Camaro owners who wish their cars were lighter so they would be faster, if that was the case aabreu09's friend may not have made it. That is something I can't even think about.

A,B and C pillars are goners. Car is a total and sacrificed itself to save the driver.
Many drunks don't bother to carry insurance or a valid drivers license.
Drunks usually don't have much money either, sad but I don't think much will happen to the DUI scumbag.
On a bright side, the 1LE will live again as a parts car.

1st off i'm glad your friend is ok and able to walk away. Yes these cars are on the heavy side but they are well built and i love how they got a 5 star crash rating.

Glad yur buddy walked away!

Are all 5th gens models and years made this good to absorb a impact like that or is it just the 1le and Zl1 made like this for the track ?

I'd be just as comfortable taking an impact like that in a regular ss as I would in a 1LE. That being said, my 4th gen saved my life before, hit a pothole and lost steering:

Yeah sure, GM occasionally screws up a few styling cues, but I've always felt safe in their cars after that one.
