makes me wonder how a regular GT would perform compared to the shelby... although I think the Camaro would win. Theoretically, higher horsepower means higher top speed, am I right?[/QUOTE]
Not really my camaro dosent have a speed limmiter anymore and i have 336 hp and i toped out my 01 ss at 186mph. |

I didn't realize there was a Z28. I think the more likely match up would be the SS vs the GT.

No, I think this article was to showcase the salt flats and what it means to go FAST. A low-profile writeup of a couple of guys having some fun. And they chose to do it in two iconic American muscle cars. |

Considering the SS was down 120hp, WOW did it perform well.

Thanks to the guys for sharing their fun with us. Great story and good writing. I love reading all comparisons and discussions, as it helps educate me to a certain extent.
Being a Chevy (class, style, beauty, etc.) and a Camaro lover (imagine the possibilities, bang for the buck, and how much do you want to spend), stories like these reinforces that even more. As impressive as the Shelby GT500 is, I am even more impressed by the Camaro in this story (110+ hp and price differential, as shown partially below). Having some more fun (source AOL Autos with evident copy/paste struggle), and as if you all didn't already know, mostly summed up above already, here is some additional repetitive comparisons.... Compare Pricing 2SS 2dr coupe Base 2dr coupe 2010 Chevrolet Camaro 2010 Ford Shelby GT500 MSRP $33,945 $46,725 Market Price $33,887 $43,890 Invoice Price $32,587 $42,236 Destination Charge $850 $850 Monthly Car Payment $641 $882 Last edited by john2000car; 07-28-2010 at 09:40 PM. Considering the terrible aerodynamics of both cars I suppose the numbers are okay. LS1s were doing 175 with the limiter removed and 162 limited stock 12 yrs ago, so I'm not impressed. Acceleration is the story with the GT500 and 5th SS.

Yeah, we should have a Camarofest near the salt flats and make one day just for something like this. How fun would that be?!
