Radiator flush help
How far does the petcock turn to drain the radiator?
Mine in closed position is parallel to the ground. Did not turn easily but I did turn it 90 degrees counter clockwise so that it now sits perpendicular to the ground. Looks like it needs to be turned more to flow but I dont want to break it. Help is appreciated. |

Please disregard. Got it after my friend channel locks showed up. Had messed up my hand in accident earlier in the year and my girl like grip strength was not enough to wrestle the beast.
Thanks all |

I avoid flush solutions. I just drain, fill with distilled water, let it run for a few minutes, drain and repeat if needed. Distilled water will pull out any crap that's in there without causing harm. Make sure not to use tap water when refilling.
A lot of coolant stays in the heater core and block, this is why I drain, refill, and repeat if the coolant looks a bit murky. I also wouldn't want to leave any corrosive flushing solution behind...

No worries. I just didn't want to break the petcock twisting it first time in the camaro. All good now.
Gonna contact one of dsmer1 girls next time I need to open it. |

Petcock comes completely out. Mine came out with just my fingers.

I usually disconnect the hoses at both ends and use a garden hose to flush out the radiator, then reattach the hoses and fill with new fluid.

What if petcock wont re-tighten? Is it possible to strip it? if its broke it should pull out but it doesn't.
Anyone had this happen?
