well it was a good run. Had my Xbox since late 07, I believe I have one from the original troubled years.

Well tonight, went to turn it on just to be greeted by the red ring of death...

....well time to pick up a newer one...

Yeah, lost mine from 07 a week or two ago. Was one of the Halo 3 editions. So lame.

FYI if anybody other than MS fixes it they can ban it from LIVE for system tampering if it is not fixed correctly. and even if you open it but do not fix it they will not fix it even though it is out of warranty even if you paid them.

but on a different note the 'slim' version of the 360 is a far better 360 than the older ones were. they have a much better cooling system with a huge fan on the top (if it is laid on it's side) that draws out the heat very nicely. if you are a casual gamer and only play single player and some online play games get the 4 gig model for 199 you can always add the 250 gig hard drive down the line but you would be better off getting the 250 gig model for the 299 plus it comes with a headset (both models have the wi fi and support that Kinnect gizmo with no need to plug it into a power outlet as the 360 powers it just fine as long as it is a slim model).

I looked into that, but mine is so far outside of the warranty that I'd have to pay and be out a few weeks without an xbox. So I'm just gonna pick up a slim.

I wish this had waited a few months. I wanted the R2-D2 edition Xbox coming out. Oh well.

I'm not throwing it away. My buddy is a computer & software engineer and likes to mess around with components (think of what people did when the kinect came out) so he's gonna give me $50-$100 for it and mess around with it.

I had one of the originals, about 2 years ago it started getting the red ring while playing GTA 4, got pissed, turned it off. Then later my wife's dog peed on it. I don't think microsoft would have honored the warranty after that.

If you can, get a new one, the black ones are awesome.

Dont fix it, its a waste of time. I fixed mine and it lasted another month...

Just dish out the money and get the nice new black one.
