ZL1 Short Throw Shifter vs Hurst Shifter
I'm just wondering if anyone out the knows what short throw shifter is the better shifter for a V8 SS , ZL1 GM Performance vs Hurst?
I have the Hurst right now and I think it feels clunky |

When I was researching shifters to buy for my V6, it sounded like the ZL1 shifter was an excellent choice. I hadn't thought about it until after I bought the MGW shifter.

My opinion. It seems like a lot of folks love MGW. The Hurst that I put in the 45th Anniversary SS was OK but, the ZL1 shifter that's in the 1LE is nice considering. It's quite a bit better than the standard SS shifter that's for sure. If you want let us know and Tammy can swing by with Kennedy and you can try it out. Todd

@ Todd, My name is Mike Bokman. Mark is my uncle, the funny thing is your old 45th Anniversary SS is mine! I have been going back and forth if I should remove the Hurst you put in the car and put in the ZL1 shifter as the Hurst seems clunky on down shifts.
By the way I love the car! I was going to wait and order a 1LE last year then my uncle Mark pulled up to the Olean store letting her bark and it was love at first sight! |

Mike,
If you can get your hands on a ZL1/1LE shifter I suggest giving it a try. The Hurst made it quite a bit shorter than stock that's for sure! With no adjustments available to the Hurst you're pretty much stuck. You can lay out some cash for an MGW and have one of the nicest shifters going. But the GM Performance shifter is a good deal too. I've seen a couple for sale here but maybe you can get a good deal at the dealership for a new one! Side note: Glad you're enjoying her. She's a great looking ride, very nice, was well cared for when we had her and dearly missed. I don't know if you're the car naming type but when we had her my wife called her Bella. If I'd have known how easy it was to do headers I'd have installed a set when doing the Solo HF cats and Magnaflow cat-back. I recommend a set if you can swing it!! I won't be back stateside until late August / early September, maybe we'll cross paths.

I installed the Hurst in my 2010 SS, The vibration drives me nuts! I am either going back to stock or trying the ZL1 myself. I am ordering it today. I will let you know how it works out.

The ZL1 shifter is very similar to the previous GM factory Hurst option with a much better knob. Not to be confused with the aftermarket Hurst which is a totally different animal. I have had stock, GM factory Hurst, and MGW on my car. The MGW will be the biggest change as it has an additional stick centering spring and feels more like the "race" shifter it is. If you love the "Fast and Furious" movie series, you will love the shifter sounds - click, click, click. The ZL1 is more refined and ever so slightly quieter at speed and much quieter when shifting.

So did all 2SS (2011) come with a Hurst Short shifter? Just noticed mine has the logo on the side of the knob?
