From: http://www.ehow.com/facts_7343807_en...amaro-lt1.html Performance All of the power numbers mean absolutely nothing without performance numbers. The 1997 Chevy Camaro SS and Z28 accelerate from 0 to 60 MPH in 5.8 seconds. It races down through a 1/4-mile track in 14.70, and has a top speed of 149.00 MPH per Car and Driver magazine. A 5th gen V6 is capable of this, stock. Do you want a car that is still in production, with a highly-advanced engine, that looks better than anything even remotely close to its price range? I think the answer is clear

The thing is that they were NOT 14.7 cars, more like high 13s and low 14s. |

It all depends on what 4th gen your talking about, I dont care what the mags say. I owned 2 LT1 camaros...the 5th gen v6 would be a good race for my 94 Z28 auto, thats it! The 97 had more power and with the M6 forget it.
My 94 Z28 auto..cold air and flowmaster muffler ran 14.3-14.6 My 97 Z28 M6... cold air, flowmaster 13.6-7 only made 3 passes and my driving was bad, a better driver could have made 13.3s Once I modded my 97 a little more it really WOKE up! That car could have ran 12s with some stickys but never made it back to the track before getting my vette.

Like you said...yours is a convert auto...mine was a M6 hard top! By the time I sold it, it had a ported TB, cold air, full exhaust, clutch, hand held tune, rims with 315s on back, adj shocks and maybe a few other things I cant remember. It would slowly pull away from my bros 98 T/A, and he had cold air and a cat back, but his is auto. I knew a guy at the time with bolt-ons and welds with slicks...his car ran 12.90s with a 96.

Less than 1 second less (.8) for a heavier bodied V-6 to a V-8 is still not to shabby. The extra comfort of my 5th Generation and my fuel mileage I'm very satisfied. Considering I don't have to use the high octane fuel I feel I made the right choice for me. I never had to have bragging rights over anyone and 1LT is still a Camaro!

LS1 car is pretty close to being on par with a 5th gen LS3 car.
