Maybe GM should yank the supercharger and go with twin turbos.

You have to think that Chevy will respond. Almost makes me want to wait for 2013 or 2014 to place my ZL1 order. These HP wars are ridiculous. Left unrestricted we will soon be driving around in 1000HP beasts. But at the end of the day, we, the enthusiasts are the winners.

Like I said before, this does make me consider waiting for the car that will be the GM's response to this vehicle. As elated as I am about my 2012 ZL1 order, I'd hate to feel like a 2010 Mustang GT owner, a new model at the time, who got the shaft when they released a much better version in 2011 (Ford's response to the higher powered SS).

I'm reacting right now out of shock, disbelief, and a bit of anger. I've said that GM should be setting their sights on trying to beat the 2013 GT500, not the current model. I knew Ford would up the ante, but they went beyond what I thought they would. It sucks to have your thunder stolen months before the release of a car you ordered.

I've never really cared about the whole price debate as I was willing to spend just about anything within reason for the ZL1 if it came down to it, but now things have changed a bit. If they release a base price of at or below the low $50's, I'm in. Mid $50's, I have to think about waiting. Upper 50's to $60+k (which I just can't see happening), I'm probably out and will continue the waiting game.

650 hp is just the start, one could only imagine what kind of hp people are going to bring these cars up to. with long tubes, cold air intake, whipple or kb blower these cars are going to be north of 800hp, with solid forged engine, i say its going to be car enthusiast dream. sorry but the zl1 is not going to be able to compete against this monster. chvey should have went with the ls9 motor, the lsa is good cheep mexican engine but is not going to be enough.

It's official. Now I must wait and buy a Shelby. Sorry GM, but again, you'll be behind the eight ball.......

BUWHAAA hahaha! I'm kidding! I don't care if the mustang had 1650 HP, I'm not driving, let alone buying, no ugly car.

Thing is they didnt mention tire size. you would think the first thing they would say is bigger wider tires to put all that power down, but no. which leads me to believe they stuck with the skinny 285 which didnt help with the 550hp gt500, add 100hp to it... im not worried one bit.

2013 GT500 goes on-sale in the spring/summer 2012, same time as the ZL1. Why would people be looking to sell their ZL1 a year later?

I absolutely agree with everything you said including the break points of price with me in or out. I want the car but this will make me rethink how much I am willing to pay. This is not about affordability, b/c that is not the issue for me, it is about reasonability now.

This has to be the GM engineers who worked on the ZL1's worst nightmare to wake up this morning and reading about the GT 500. All that work down the toilet in one fell swoop. The ZL1 wasn't even top dog for a year and it's already left in the dust.

Well this really sucks... I knew I should have gotten a vette and been done with it!

I think this is a good thing to be honest. GM now has to price the 12 Zl1 very competitive to the point of maybe not making a profit on it. Some enthusiats will buy it cause of the potentional value and iconic nature, but if its not priced right I think we may find a lot of people holding off.

I wonder what fbodfather will have to say about all of this? He is in a way an intercessor between GM and the customer.
