July Motor Trend, Camaro 3rd place to Mustang & Challenger

OK, The numbers are in for the first test of the new Mustang 5.0 and a comparison of the SS and the SRT8.

1st Place: Mustang - 0-60 / 4.4 sec. - 1/4 mi. / 12.7 @ 111.3 - 60-0 / 104'
skidpad .97g

2nd Place Challenger SRT8 - 0-60 / 4.8 sec. - 1/4 mi. / 13.3 @ 106.1
60-0 / 113' skidpad .92g

3rd Place Camaro SS - 0-60 / 4.7 sec. - 1/4 mi. / 13.1 @ 110 - 60-0 / 108'
skidpad .92g

The MT editors chose Camaro for third because they did not like the small windows and lower visibility over the better visibility of the Challenger and they also thought it sounded better. The GM Team said that they would not let anyone else out do them. The Mustang has thrown down the gauntlet, with their new 5.0 engine and Brembo brake package. I only hope the GM Team accepts the challenge and has a couple of tricks up their sleeve.

Car and Driver however gave it to the Camaro...it's cool that the mags are all different...means cars are getting cool.

Those Mustang stopping numbers are with the Brembo package (extra $$$). As we know Brembos are standard on a 32K 1SS.

Firmly convinced the Camaro is the better dealeo. Sales will tell, but I think there won't be the line up for Mustangs that people expect. Then again, if they do sell like hot cakes, the Camaro price will fall just at the time I will be buying one.

Just. Plain. Dumb. What a bunch of whining Nancys. Maybe next month they can complain about how the Corvette doesn't seat 6 comfortably.

Actually C&D gave it to the Mustang, even tho it tested slightly slower in their runs vs. the Camaro.

The Camaro has not come out on top in any of the tests in the end for the 2011 MY fights.

Yes but...ALL the comparos have been very very close...so close that it comes down to personal taste. Ford has done a great job keeping up, I must say, but if all they can accomplish is matching the Camaro's numbers, the Camaro will still out sell IMHO, especially in the looks department.

Isn't that funny how the two switched sides from a year ago. These mags are just playing everyone to keep the fire burning. I don't put any stock into any mag. They all have other things on there mind than telling the truth. Talk about BS.

2011 Mustang pricing is now online. You know the 1SS and could build a better feature-to-feature car for comparison than I could. If you do nothing other than price a base GT ($29,645) with destination charge ($850) and add nothing other than the Brembos ($1,695), the total is $32,190.

If you can get Camaro performance for 2-3,000 dollars less..why would you go for the Camaro other than liking the way the car looks or brand loyalty?

Probably 60% of the people who buy these cars are doing so out of just floating between brands. If they have no brand loyalty they will likely go with looks (with is subjective, based on the person) and price. If they go by price alone then the Camaro will not outsell it in that group.

The Camaro has been out for a year now, and for the most part those who have been chomping at the bit to get one..have.

Now comes the fight for the average Joe and Jane.

Yeah I just saw that...same price, both cloth, both base radio, etc...
But I still say, with those small wheels the Mustang just doesn't look as good. To make the Mustang look decent, you need to add the higher end packages (California, etc).

I'm not making excuses...actually I like the fact that Ford had upped the game...it keeps GM competitive. I simply love the Camaro looks and with numbers that close, performance is a wash.
