Circle D, Protorque, and FTI should be added to the list. These companies make very well respected converters.

Why?? I've had a 3200 stall on my car for 6 months now with no other mods than headers/exhaust... best bang for your buck.
I would def do TC first if you're going to stage the installs... a big cam w/o a TC would not be too much fun.

We drag race LS based cars throughout the Eastern US and have run most every major brand and the FTI has been the one we have NEVER broken and is cinsistanly a tenth plus quicker for a comparable specced converter than any we have ever used. This is not the occaisonal test & tune duty, but years of racing every weekend season long and many times doubled up. The others listed are great products and we used to standardize with the Yank & Vig's, but bet our wins on the FTI.

i have the 3600 fti stall on my g8. my friend used hp tuners to unlock it on wot. vs. the stock tune when it locks in 4th it is actually a tenth quicker and almost two miles per hour faster with it unlocked at wot. there is software which allows for partial throttle lockup which i do have. even with that once in a while at 40 to 50 mph the rpm will drop a couple of hundred rpm and come back up again. but no big deal.

We never advertise a tenth quicker, but see it on some cars. It is one of the best bangs for the $$ as far as 1/4 mile ET improvement. Lots of good TC's out there, but have yet to see any outperform the FTI units and have been racing these cars long enough to use and sell them only now.

I am re reading my post. A little convaluted. Bottom line. At wot it performs best when unlocked. I believe the stock software locks the stock convertor around 95 mph in the g8. It not only locks the convertor; but calls for a little slip. A little slip on a large heavy stock convertor is not bad. But on a smaller lighter convertor without a tune that slip is actually more pronounced. When we put into the hp program to unlock it at wot it actually ran quicker and a little faster. I hope that makes sense.

So is a trans cooler recommended or not, 1st post says its a must the 3rd post says not

Getting my motor stroked 416 ci, ordered a 3000 stall TC from Circle D. Want my trans to last as long as possible.

From personal experience with a car modified significantly less than what you have it helped for me. Honestly it still ran hot on occasions with it.

I've got a Circle D convertor and ADM trans cooler... ran it for 6 months before my build and it ran very cool... always below 180. Probably could have done without it.

But after the cam and raising the idle etc... it now runs at or very slightly to the right of 180 so the cooler is definitely needed now.
