Just got back from dealer.

So as many of you know I went to the dealer today to order my 2010 Camaro. When I went in there the internet happened to be down so he couldn't bring up the pricing for me. But he did pull out an order form and wrote on there everything I wanted without the pricing. At the bottom he wrote Vehicle to be Sold at MSRP. I place my $500 deposit and went out the door with my sales form. He said he will email me the order # on Monday.

Does this sound like a legitimate deal? It sort of bothered me he couldn't bring up the pricing...

Thanks guys!

Also, if something happens from now until I get the car am I allowed to get my deposit back? Say I lose my job or something.

You should have asked about that prior to giving it to them and had it put in writing whether or not it was refundable. Our policy is that it's not a Non-Refundable Deposit...and our customers were told upfront and signed an agreement.

That would be all well and good if a person special ordered a vehicle that was hard to sell. But since these Camaros will be hard to come by, at first, your dealer would have to be pretty sleazy to keep the deposit if you were to back out.

What reason is there to ever make a deposit Non-Refundable? Aside from a special order in some strange configuration or color anyway.

The dealer will EASILY be able to resell the car.

I had this little "discussion" with the crooks - I mean dealer that F'ed my Corvette deal up. Ed Morse Sawgrass Auto Mall said "Oh, that wasn't a deposit, it was a partial payment, it's non-refundable".

I said, hmm, I know the law, would you like to have the Florida State Attorney General's Office explain it to you, Mr. Weasel? They gave my check back. End of story.

Speak to the General Manager at the dealer first. Check your state's laws, your Attorney General is there to help you with crooks.

EDIT: The law in FL is, it's not your car until all four tires roll over the curb, down the road, burnin' gas. And it's your money until then. Use a credit card if possible.

Go to your state's Attorney General website, and see if it has the answer or email them the refundable question for Monday.

I'm not sure about other states, only FL. But I'll bet it's the same. Or, call and ask the dealer's General Manager. He's the guy or gal in charge.

I ordered my 2SS today- spoke to the dealer with the same question- what if I can't take delivery/lose my job etc. He told me technically its non refundable- but in cases where they have run into this situation they typically end up refunding it anyway either right away or when they sell the car. The only time its really non refundable is like what Ellwynx was sayin- strange config etc. These things will sell like crazy so i wouldn't worry about it.
