94 octane.. Eek. Using premium on this engine can be detrimental. And like the other poster mentioned, you're wasting your money.

Is it really going to harm the engine if you use 92 instead of 87

Last tank the car read 19mpg and my calculations had it at 19.6
My car is really sensitive to city driving. This is not getting on it. I just filled up and drove through the city for some business and hit the highway twice. I am at 17.6 mpg by the DIC.

The LS1 gets 91 at Sam's Club (10% ethanol). I find it very strange the 6 does not get near the 29mpg stated. I thought I should be getting 28 - 31. Still would have gotten the V6 for the winter; V8 may have too much power for the snow. I am VERY,VERY happy with my car; only complaint is the mileage.

I always wonder why people, myself included sometimes, expect to be able to get the EPA numbers all the time. Just looking at the tests used to determine the numbers from the EPA should show you that an average person is not likely to hit those numbers all the time.
For example, I don't know about all of you but I certainly don't average 48mph in my freeway driving.

No, but it will harm your wallet and support the oil companies unnecesarily...

Is 94 really that bad for my V6?
I guess I just thought the higher the octane the better... |

28mpg or better?
Quote:
I believe the MPG went to a different standard in 2007. The standards got tougher. A 2006 Impala was 30 or 31; 2007 was 29. I NEVER got less than 31 per tank in my 2007. All my current and previous cars, I have exceeded the window sticker HWY mileage by 2-5 MPG per tankful. The worst I have had with my current cars is 18 with my 1998 LS1 cruising around town and the beach. The best I have gotten with my 2010 was my last tank; 24.1 with no A/C, windows up above 40 mph, no idling, 85% +/- highway, gradual increases in speed (no jackrabbit from stops, no tromping to pass). I would like to know; Has anyone gotten 28 mpg or better for a tankful?

However, headed home from an H-Town Camaro Club event Friday night, I averaged 31.1 mpg on the 42 mile drive home. (2 adults/2 kids, nearly full tank of gas, 100% freeway, 65mph, 6th gear with an occasional drop to 5th for passing, no cruise, A/C on, computer reset once I reached 65mph on the on-ramp). The computer's calculation is pretty much been dead on when compared to my manual calculation with each fill-up.

I have a 2LT manual and have made many trips between Dallas and
Atlanta, about 800 miles, and every time I average between 27 and 28mpg on the highway. Cruise set around 76-79mph, A/C on most of the time. An occasional slowdown and rev-up to pass trucks/slow traffic. In the city (Atlanta) I get around 20 to 23mpg depending on traffic and A/C. I know I can get much better on the highway if I slow it down to 65-70mph, but am willing to sacrifice the extra couple dollars per tank. :-) Can't wait to see how it measures up in cooler weather. Broke it in driving from Michigan to Texas after delivery (~1300 miles), changed oil with Mobil 1, changed again at 4500 miles, and am at 6400 now. I'm fairly picky about gas, and understand from others that I may be throwing money away by putting premium (93-94) in it, but after experimenting with stations/gas grades in my other vehicle, an '08 Denali XL, I'm sticking with it... |

On the freeway, driving 70-80MPH for 22 miles my automatic got 30.2mpg. Over all average is 22.8 so the computer says. The car has just over 2000 miles on it.
