Maybe converting to an ls3

Depending on what the dealer says today I may be converting to an ls3 and getting a nice cam. I don't really know if I should be happy about having to pay for that myself or hoping for the dealer to fix my lifters for free. Any suggestions?

why vvt is nice. ditch the afm/dod tune and internals and get a nice vvt cam would be my advice.

i did recently and only wished i did sooner. 450ish hp to rear wheels with stock torque converter on 91 gas. instant torque off idle and perfroms very nicely on track

you can get a big vvt cam. i went very mild because i wanted my stock torque converter for daily driving and road courses. that is a limiting factor on cams with us l99 guys. he can go as big or bigger cam as the ls3 guys while keeping vvt and matching up a stall.

it all depends on his goals, how he uses car, and of course the tuner.

but if he is tired of the oem valvetrain then i would suggest upgrade. ditch afm/dod internals and a nice vvt cam. finding the right tune is even more crucial for us L99 guys with the cam phasing tables and of course the transmission tune.

goodluck OP send. research vvt and really decide if you want to lose it. talk to rhino78 and texas speed about vvt thats what i did...aside from Ryne at cms also giving me info. custom grinds for you and your tuner are best in my opinion, but if that fails texas speed has specd out 3 wondeful vvt cams and can supply the cam phaser tables...after that its like tuning a ls3, just you kept a very nice piece of technology.

ohh ya, afm/dod is not vvt and vvt is not afm/dod. afm/dod includes internals as well as the tune. which either way you go you should ditch and feel good about.

As far as goals and usage I just want it to run right and sound mean. I don't go to the track ever so that's not a concern. I really need to find somebody with a cam and stall to see what it rides like never been in a car with one. Really don't want to go that aggressive though.

I went TSPs VVT2 cam with stock converter and love it.. Either way you go AFM delete is a must! There are a lot of people on here with higher stalls that use them as a daily driver. Just know if you go a large stage 2 or a stage 3 cam the factory converter will need changed.. Everyone loves a cam, every time you start it you can't stop smiling!

Rhino's track times are probably a big reason for that.

I would say if you never plan to go FI then for sure get a VVT cam so long as you have tuning support for it.
