With the 5th Gen, who knows....most likely the 5th Gen. I don't know that much about the BMW M3 to make a solid prediction. I will say that I took a M3 in my last Z28. It kept up rather well, but 1/4 and 0<100 were mine. I'm sure that if we took it on a road course, he'd have my lunch. With that beind said, the new 5th Gen should be faster w/ a better suspension....so....

Shew, it will be a very close race.
The information I was able to find on it has the power at 420 HP but only 295 ft-lb of torque. Likewise it will come in at around 3,200 lbs and have near perfect 50/50 weight distribution. I say on the Nurburgring Nordschleife the M3 runs away from the 5th gen with relative ease. 1/4 mile and 0-100 I will give the edge to the Camaro because of the massive low-end torque it will likely have, but it would be a very close race and likely one that would be decided by the drivers' abilities. |

Yeah BMWs may not be heavy on the torque, but they more than make up for it with high rpm redlines complimented by steeper rear end gearing.
My money would be on the BMW in the twisties, and the Camaro in the straights. Pretty much par for the course.

I think the 5th gen will be much better in the twisties than any other F-body ever was. The IRS will certainly give it much better weight distribution. It might be a driver's race. The 5th gen may be able to hang with an M3 much better than we realize.

BTW, that was like 3 years ago. So, it was an older M3 I was talking about.

Camaro wins...this is why
Even IF the BMW wins this is why the Camaro really comes out on top..
- Camaro is about HALF the price - Camaro is a hell of a lot better looking (and unique) - My neighbor the attorney drives a beemer and drives like a sorority girl - People think a BMW is a right of passage; the Camaro is a CHOICE and a LIFESTYLE - Camaro will turn more heads - Camaro SOUNDS better (even with Yanni playing on the stereo) - Camaro is intimidating...look at that grill! And more than anything; chicks like danger; and while the guy driving the M3 is racing to the finish line...I'll be leaning on my SS talking to his girlfriend! Sorry if that's off topic...just want to put my prospective on it!!! -Thaxton FREE downloads at www.thaxtonward.com/new |

EXACTLY
Got that right Quote:
Any by for the most important... I can't agree with you more on this! There are very few car owners that are more passionate about the car they drive than Camaro owners, IMHO! |

i would buy the new M3. hands down.. the bottom line is you get what u pay for... my first car was a 84 z28 HO and loved it.. i've driven many other sports cars through the years and currently i drive the 05 mustang gt and a 01 x5 bmw.. i would have loved to own a m3 but couldnt afford two bmws so i bought the new model stang which is a nice but its by no means an m3 except for straight ahead speed.... i''ve also done the race course test to compare other manufactures car to the bmw.. bmw blows away any other factory car is its class... i had my two buddies which are muscle car frecks at this race course event and after they drove the bimmer they even said "unbelievable"..... anyway , i cant wait for the new camaro to come out asap!!!! i went to a local dealer last week and they said that " there not taking any deposits yet or is there a waiting list to purchase":(

Personally, the only way I would take an M3 is if it were given to me, or sold too me at a low enough rate that I could turn around and sell it for a profit.
I don't care how good they are, German cars just don't do it for me. Well maybe a Porsche 911 Turbo, but if I had the cash for something like that....Z06 here I come. Maybe it is because I live in Germany right now, but I am sick of Audi's, BMWs, and Mercedes. The line ups within each of those manufacturer look so similar. The only real variation in the styling is when you get into the SUVs. Now the only thing that looks and acts like a Camaro is a Camaro.

Well, I have to throw my 2 cents in. The M3 is a machine no doubt. I also took the BMW course in a 330 Performance (which is no M3) and it is amazing what that car can do in the hands of someone who knows how to handle it. And without a doubt, Germans make some mean cars. They are dependable (mostly), tight and very well handling. I guess that is the advantage of having the Audobon (sp?) right by you. But here in America, where you get to use your car from stop light to stop light and with somewhat limiting speed limits, the Camaro would be the car for me.
Of course this comes from someone who has a small block chevy in his 928. |
