Increasing Performance Poll

How many of you convertible lovers have increased the HP, exhaust, or interior performance in your car? I recently talked with a guy who owned a convert SS and had no respect to those who "tuned up" or "faked" their performance by adding such things. I myself have a Cat-Back Solo exhaust system so I was put into the "fake" category. Maybe that's why he was so hostile towards me. I want to know how many of us have "tuned up" their Camaros like me, because I think it is perfectly fine and needed to keep up the incredible Camaro reputation. So is it good or bad?

That guy is being a jerk. The only thing that bothers me is badging your car to make it out to be more than it is. SS badges on a V6 or ZL1 badges on a non-ZL1 are no-no's in my book.

I plan on at least doing all bolt-on mods as soon as I get re-employed. I'm considering getting the soon-to-be-released cams sometime down the road.

"Ghost cams", cosmetics (spoilers, splitters), and re-badging might be "faked performance", but adding performance aftermarket parts certainly isn't. The guy you were talking to is a complete tool.

There's appearance mods, and there's performance mods. And there's various levels of both based on what you want your car to do. Why wouldn't you add an exhaust and/or cold air intake to improve the sound/HP/fuel economy of your car? I don't run around calling mine a "race car" because of it. If you plan on trailering the car to the drag strip every weekend, this probably isn't enough to satisfy your power addiction. But it's never made allot of sense to me why folks put tens of thousands into an engine to take it to a car show (not that I wouldn't if I could...). It's all personal choice; do what you want and don't let someone's personal opinion make your choices for you.

I put emblems on my Vert, "SRT8" On the decklid, 'GT" on the gas cap, "STI" on the other side of the decklid, "AMG" on the fenders and to top it off I put small "limited" emblems on the sides of the hood.

Am I a poser?

Personalization is all about personal expression. Since he is opposed to any modifications or personalization I guess that means he lacks all personality. That's not to say that "factory original" is not a valid personal expression, but talking smack about others that have chosen to express themselves differently only demonstrates the shallowness of his personal self.

Mod away! Go big, go gaudy, or keep it simple. It's your car do whateva you like.

It's all a matter of personal preference. Some people are 'purists', and some of us are not.

Don't worry about what others think. No matter what you do, there will be somebody that doesn't like it. It's human nature.

Do whatever YOU want to do with your car. You bought it to make YOU happy.

Nothing wrong with keeping it stock if that is what a you like. I have done some mods, Solo exhaust, CAI, painted calipers because I like the look and sound they gave me. I was at a cruise night last Fri and I heard an SS with the stock exhaust pull out of the show and I thought it was way too quiet. The owner may not have felt the same way I did but its his car and he can do or not do what he wants to it.

Had it for only a month, but added CAI right away. Trying to decide which exhaust I want.
It's a personal choice....but these enhance performance and mpg slightly.
Personalize the car!!!!

Tell the dude he can complain when he starts making your payments!!
