No kind of a bad idea since you really need to put it in gear with the crappy parking brake. Not worth the trouble, expense or risk...

Yeah I got one. Viper 5901 Alarm/Remote Start. Works like a charm. Always cool to see peoples reactions when you hit the remote start at night and get those headlights shinin. Also nice to keep the car warm during the winter before going to work.

I'll second that. A few years back I was sitting in traffic near a tint shop. I'm casually listening to the radio and I see something moving out of the corner of my eye. I had to do a double take but it was in fact a big black Cadillac heading my way yet ever so slowly. Now mind you there was a curb and about 10 feet of grass between my car and the parking lot where this CTS-V was coming from. I quickly drove forward to avoid being hit. As I looked back I saw the owner walking after the car which had stalled in the middle of the road at that point. I could hear him yelling bak to his friends "Forgot to take it out of gear".

Too many dangers in a manual. I'm sure they could disable it the remote start if it's in gear. But not for me. I could totally see that happening to me at some point.

the car may lunge forward then stall if its started in gear but it shoud not continue to move if the break is engaged.

Ya it can be bad.....I had the viper system inmy 98 camaro 5speed, I let a friend borrow it at work, he returned back to where we had been working and left it in first(mind you I never leave it in gear!)A couple of hours went by, it was time to go home, I was inside and had started it....I clocked out then walked outside to....see my car had jumped a curb and ran into a fence!!!! it scratched the shit outta my bumper!!!!! Then I sold the car to my friend, left the system on, I told him never to leave the car in gear......well, his girlfriend drove that day, left it in gear, hit the remote start and it ran into a tree....totalled it!!!! so ya couple of good reasons y you shouldnt get it By the way the E brake was on both times when this happened

im going to be putting it on our car, ive had it on many manual vehicles. You just have to make sure the remote start wont engage if the car is in gear. Too easy.

hope i don't get any heat over this one....but theoretically is it possible to use an aftermarket unit but swap keys for the automatic key with the remote start button and somehow use the factory fob.

Not saying i condone putting remote start on a M6 but its just a thought running thru my head.... is there a physical module on the A6 for the remote start or just programming in the ECM or BCM?

If i was to do this i would not want a bulky Viper 2 way key fob, i'd want to use the chevy fob i have to carry to start the car anyways.

If you go aftermarket remote start you will have to have a second fob. The manual does not have the module for it plus the computer is not programmed for it and I highly doubt the dealers have the programs needed to add it.
