Automatic Car Start and heated seats, heater, and defroster

I am one of those ‘crazy’ people that have to drive my Camaro in the Illinois winter. I have put on the winter tires, and I figured I was ready to go.

Wrong.

I used my automatic car starter a few minutes before I went out to the car. It was started, but the car seats were not warmed up, nor was the heat and defrosters on. They would only go on after I put the key in the ignition.

I changed the configuration to have the seats warmers go on with the automatic car start, but still nothing.

Before I take the car into the dealership to have them look at it, I was wondering if any of you had an idea I could try to see if I could get it to work. (Besides take my lazy ass out to the car and manually turn it on, or park it in my non-existent garage)

interested to hear this too. remote start is worthless if your car cannot defrost without the key in the ignition imo. I haven't had to use it for that just yet but the cold weather is coming quickly

I saw someone post the other day that the seat heaters would not come on automatically unless the temp was below 50. Don't know if their right.

This is probably what you tried but it wasn't 100% clear. Did you turn on the seat warmers, defrosters, and heat before you turned the car off the night before? If not, then you could try that.

My camaro doesn't have auto-start because it's a manual, but my Equinox does. You have to have the heat on before you turn it off for it to come on when you start it manually. I haven't looked in the owner's manual to read about this feature, but I know if I have the seat heaters on and temperature turned to hot with heater on when I turn it off, it will come on the next morning when I start it.

Hi, whatever you leave the heater on when you shut the car off is what you get when you turn it on, the heated seats can be programed in the radio menu ( I think there is a 50º limit not sure, don't know anything about auto rear defrost..

I did leave the heater / defroster on from the night before, and I'm pretty sure I hit the 50 degree mark because I had to use the ice scraper on the windows for the first time.

Any other ideas? If not I'm bringing it back in. What is the point of an automatic car starter if it doesn't actually warm up the inside of the car or defrost the windows?

Like someone else said, if you leave your heat on full blast set to defrost, it will come on that way with remote start.

However, the heated seats have to be programmed to come on in the radio's settings. I've had my set to "on" for the last week, but everytime I remote start it, it doesn't feel like they were on....unless they take a long time to heat up. So when I get in the car, I turn the seats on manually and they only seem to take a few minutes to heat my rump up nice and toasty.
