C8 AWD?

Do you think GM will explore AWD as an option for the Z06 variant of the C8? Would be interesting as the base can hit 0-60 in less than 3 seconds, I assume AWD Z06 will push somewhere near 700hp. Might put the Z06 in the 2 second 0-60 realm with AWD.

depends on whether they can fit a transfer case, driveshaft, and front differential into the framework. I'd say it's possible, and they may work out a way to do it once, but it may not be feasible to manufacture a significant quantity.

I believe an AWD platform would give the corvette the ability to seriously compete if not outperform some of the best super cars out today. It could be a limited production like you said but it would be interesting to see GM produce at least one for testing if nothing else.

willing to bet it'd be an electric hybrid system, if anything.
a mechanical setup would be too many moving parts in an already-tight space.
they already mentioned they couldn't fit a clutch pedal into the footwell due to the fender... and don't forget the mandatory golf space

Exactly.. they could easily do away with the front trunk. Anyone buying an AWD variant I'm sure wouldn't mind only having a rear trunk.

on a side note, if they went electric, I'm wondering weight and price.. similar to NSX you think?

I don't know if it will be for the Z06, at least possibly not initially, but an AWD is coming. They eluded to it in their presentation talking about the first prototype mid engine Vette being AWD. At that point Corvette will not be much of a Corvette anymore. It's one thing making it mid-engine, but making it AWD as well is changing the entire operation of the car itself. However, I can see the car becoming at minimum a hybrid if not a full on electric vehicle eventually. It wouldn't surprise me if the front wheels were electric powered in their potential AWD option.
